5 highly underrated vampire movies to watch if you miss Twilight

Twilight was a real phenomenon, with the film saga based on Stephanie Meyer’s novels not only having had enormous success but also reawakening a collective interest in one of the most fascinating figures in cinema and literature, that of the vampire.

But in addition to the Twilight series and the best-known films starring this immortal figure, there are others lesser-known vampire films which is certainly worth recovering.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night

The very interesting directorial debut of Ana Lily Amirpour revisits the figure of the vampire who here has the features of Sheila, an Iranian girl who wears a chador, moves around on a skateboard and wanders the streets of the city of Bad City, populated only by outcasts. Until she meets a boy who seems to be the only pure man in a hopeless city.

Only lovers survive

In this film directed by Jim Jarmusch (find our review of Only Lovers Left Alive here), Adam and Eve are two lovers linked for centuries who live far from each other, trying to survive the decay of the modern world by remembering their past experiences. Not your typical vampire film, Jim Jarmusch’s is a poetic reflection on love.

Humanist vampire seeks consenting suicide

This dark comedy little known directed by Ariane Louis-Seize revolves around the story of Sasha, a young vampire who is too sensitive to kill. After her parents cut off her blood supply to survive, Sasha meets Paul, a lonely young man with suicidal aspirations willing to sacrifice himself for her.

Daybreakers

In this 2010 film starring Ethan Hawke in Dafoe an epidemic has transformed most of humanity into vampires. Human blood supplies begin to run low and a merciless struggle begins, until researcher Edward (Hawke) seems to find a solution that can save the world.
