5 wonderful underrated science fiction films that deserve rediscovery

It happens all too often that sci-fi cinematic gems get a little lost, but this is no indication of their quality: we have therefore selected five underrated sci-fi films which you really should recover.

Let’s start with Aadege died is the gatalalatel from 1995, set in a near dystopian future in which through small CDs it is possible to record the emotions of other people and relive them with a specific device.

It is also worth seeing Dark City by Alexander Proyas of 1998: a man, struck by amnesia, is accused of murder and is on the run not only from the police, but from a strange group called “The Foreigners”, who seem to hide several secrets.

We also recommend it The Thirteenth Floor by Josef Rusnak from 1999: a tech tycoon owns a virtual reality simulation of 1930s Los Angeles, but when he is killed under mysterious circumstances it is his protégé and heir who comes under suspicion.

It is also worth seeing Midnight Special di Jeff Nichols from 2016: a father is on the run with his son from the FBI and a cult after he discovers that the young boy has special powers

We close with Upgrade di Leigh Whannell of 2018: after a tragic car accident that leaves him in a wheelchair, a mechanic is implanted with an experimental chip containing an AI… which slowly begins to take over.

And to stay on topic, here are 5 films snubbed in 2025 that could become cult.
