“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Teaser Leak Talk

Sony Pictures

Following yesterday’s apparent leak of the first of Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” teasers, the same appears to have happened again for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”.

This time, however, there are more obvious questions about the material and whether it’s AI slop or not. The “Spider-Man” footage is a nearly minute-long segment from a longer trailer playing on someone’s computer, apparently shot surreptitiously.

Even more than yesterday, the footage is so blurry and riddled with compression artifacts that nothing can really be seen. The audio is fairly clear, and that’s what is causing the stir.

In the clip, Tom Holland reportedly narrates the footage, saying: “Hi, my name is Peter Parker. You don’t remember me, but we used to know each other. Something bad was gonna happen, and the only way to stop it…was to make everyone forget about me. Because I’m not just Peter Parker, I’m Spider-Man. And sometimes, Spider-Man has to do the hard thing, even if it breaks Peter Parker’s heart.”

Later on, Sadie Sink’s voice can be heard warning Spidey to stay out of her way. The voice work is seemingly convincing, and now ComicBookMovie is claiming they have confirmed that the trailer is real. In addition, Sony Pictures has reportedly begun removing the videos and audio recordings shared on social media via DMCA takedowns for copyright infringement.

Both Marvel and Sony have NOT commented on the trailer officially, and mostly the talk has been confined to social media outlets, Reddit threads and fan sites.

Why is this coming now? The answer appears to be “Anaconda”, which opens on Christmas Day, as reports suggest the trailer might be attached to that. Sony has a very anaemic schedule until “Spider-Man” arrives: “Anaconda” next week, “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” in mid-January, the animated “Goat” in mid-February, and the small horror title “Shiver” in early July.

The back half of the year, with “Spider-Man,” Zach Cregger’s “Resident Evil,” Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Reckoning,” and the next “Jumanji” film, is decidedly stronger.
