The star spoke with the EscritorCinema team during his recent presence at the Rio 2025 Festival.
One of the biggest names in Brazilian audiovisual, Wagner Moura is currently in the spotlight with The Secret Agent, a feature film that could be Brazil’s new sensation at the Oscars. Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, the production features a strong cast, made up of Gabriel Leone, Maria Fernanda Cândido, Thomas Aquino and more.
During a recent presence at the Rio 2025 Festival, Moura spoke with the Rio 2025 team I LoveCinemashowing joy in participating, in another year, in the Rio event. During the conversation, the star was asked about three Brazilian films that every movie buff should watch, responding as follows:
Bye Bye Brasil, Foreign Land and Dry Lives.
For those who don’t know, Bye Bye Brasil is a film released in 1979 by Carlos Diegues, starring Betty Faria, José Wilker, Fábio Jr. and others. This work is considered one of the most important comedies of the decade, being present on the list of the 100 best Brazilian films made by the Brazilian Association of Film Critics.
Foreign Land (1996) is directed by Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas, and presents a drama about the loneliness experienced by immigrants. The cast is made up of Fernando Alves Pinto, Alexandre Borges and Laura Cardoso – and is also on the list mentioned above.
Vidas Secas (1963) is based on the book of the same name by Graciliano Ramos. Another present on the list of the Brazilian Association of Film Critics, the film is directed by Nelson Pereira dos Santos and stars Átila Iório and Maria Ribeiro.
