Video: Mauricio de Sousa makes rare appearance in a wheelchair at premiere

About to complete 90 years, Mauricio de Sousa surprised to attend the preview of a long in his honorMauricio de Sousa – The Film“, which took place on Tuesday (22), at the 49th São Paulo International Film Festival.

In a wheelchair, the comic artist – who a few years ago chose not to give any more interviews – was present at the event and watched the film in his honor. Alongside his son, Mauro Sousa, who plays him in the production, the duo was moved when they were applauded through the crowded cinema after the screening. Despite not talking to the public or the press, the artist waved to the audience and was full of smiles.

In celebration of his birthday, the author was honored at the 49th Mostra and awarded the Leon Cakoff Awardin a ceremony that took place on October 15th, at the opening of the festival.

“Maurício de Sousa – The Film” what premieres this Thursday (23), celebrates the life story of one of the most relevant comic artists of Brazil, which marked generations with its popular characters, the Monica’s Gang. In the plot, Mauro interpreted his father’s life stories, starting from childhood, discovering his passion for comics until becoming an icon of national literature.
