‘Chainsaw Man’ film debuts in Brazil with an audience of more than 26 thousand people

Chainsaw Man: The Movie — Arco da Reze premiered this Thursday (23) in cinemas across Brazil, already bringing in impressive numbers. According to data from the B Movieonly on the premiere date, 26.8 thousand people went to watch the film, which already guaranteed the second best release yesterday, and very competitive with the others.

The three premieres with the highest audience were practically a technical tie in terms of audience, and curiously, they appear to be very different genres. 1st place went to horror The Black Phone 2with 28.3 thousand tickets sold, while the novel If It Wasn’t For You took 3rd position with 25.9 thousand tickets.

The anime also had the second highest box office, grossing R$ 547,3 milwhile the “poles” were reversed, with 1st place for If It Wasn’t For Youwith R$ 552 thousand, and the 3rd with Telephone 2with 447.3 thousand. It is good to remember that the film Chainsaw Man is also available in rooms IMAXwhere tickets are more expensive.

Let’s now wait to see if the trend will be consolidated for the rest of the weekend, potentially closing in on an audience of more than 200,000 people in the opening campaign (which would be great for a “niche” film).

Distributed in dubbed and subtitled copies by Sony Pictures, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Arco da Reze is a continuation of the TV series, adapting the “Bomb Girl” arc from the manga (chapters 39 to 52). It features the character Reze, with whom Denji ends up falling in love in a cafe and comes into conflict with the feelings he also has for Makima. But Reze still hides her little secrets as our human-demon hybrid.

On Chainsaw Man

Created by Tatsuki Fujimoto (Fire Punch, Look Back), the story of Chainsaw Man approaches Denji, a poor man capable of doing anything for money, even hunting demons with his dog Pochita. He is an ordinary boy, mired in debt, but one day everything changes when he is betrayed by a person he trusted. Now, with demonic powers, Denji becomes the Chainsaw Man (“Chainsaw Man”).

The manga work began to be serialized in Shonen Jump in 2018, having until then 22 bound volumes — the Panini publishes the manga in Brazil.

In 2023, the studio MAP produced the animated adaptation, in a series directed by Ryuu Nakayama (Black Clover), with script by Hiroshi Seko. The character design is Kazuyaka Sugiyama (Mushoku Tensei) and the music of Kensuke Ushio (Devilman Crybaby). With 12 episodes, the anime was shown by Crunchyroll e features dubbing.

In 2025, the sequel to the animated series came through a film, with the release of Arco da Rezereleased in October in Brazilian cinemas.
