1. The Darkest Hour

The first film in the “Halloween” trilogy, released in 1978 and directed by John Carpenter, the production tells the story of the villain Michael Myers (Nick Castle), who murders his older sister with a kitchen knife at the age of six.
The maniac escapes from a psychiatric hospital 15 years after the death and returns to his hometown, where he begins to persecute Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends. A huge success in theaters, the film also resulted in the release of ten other films, whether or not entirely connected to Myers’ story.

This one is a classic that cannot be missing from any list of horror productions. Who doesn’t remember Fred Krueger? To this day, the villain is one of the scariest in the seventh art and can be the perfect option for those looking for a great work of the genre.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” was released in 1984 and follows a group of teenagers. In the story, they are attacked by a deformed man with steel claws in their own nightmares and, to escape, they have to wake up. After several recorded crimes, the characters discover that the killer is Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a man who molested children on Elm Street and was burned alive.
4. Terrifier 2

In addition to the classics, recent films are also marked in the public’s imagination. Released in 2022, “Terrifier 2” is one of these and came to continue the first in the franchise, still in the more “gore” line for which it became known.

2005’s “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” tells the story of Erin Bruner, an atheist lawyer who agrees to defend a Catholic priest accused of letting a young girl die during an exorcism. The inexplicable events, however, will make Erin rethink her own beliefs.
The film is inspired by the real case of Anneliese Michel, a German student who died in 1976 after undergoing exorcism sessions.

National Feature, “As Boas Maneiras” is from 2018, directed by the duo Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra. The plot revolves around the character Clara, a nurse who monitors the pregnancy of Ana, a rich young woman from the interior of São Paulo.
Things start to get strange between the two on full moon nights, when Clara starts to observe Ana more directly and is surprised by her discoveries.
7. The Shining

And to close the list, nothing less than the work of Stanley Kubrick, but with a vibe more similar to psychological horror.
The protagonist is Jack Torrance (Nicholson), a recovering alcoholic who becomes a caretaker at the isolated historic Overlook Hotel, in Colorado. His son, Danny Torrance (Lloyd), who has psychic abilities, begins to see the hotel’s horrific past and communicates telepathically with the hotel’s cook, Dick Hallorann (Crothers). Jack then becomes directly affected by the mysterious influence of the establishment.
