“very good entertainment” on the planet of the ultra-rich

VIDEO – Every week, our film critics comment on a film released in theaters. Today, Samuel Douhaire and Marie Sauvion are quite in agreement on the Huppert-Laffite duo brilliantly embodying this improbable couple inspired by the Bettencourt affair.

IYou have to see her, Isabelle Huppert, interpret Marianne Farrère, a free iteration of Liliane Bettencourt, the richest woman in the world who gives its title to Thierry Klifa’s sixth film: head of an above-ground family, planted in a sumptuous setting in which she never appears wearing the same outfit twice, and who is visibly getting younger. And he, Laurent Laffite, as a photographer as vulgar as he is funny and interested, arrives like a dog in a bowling game in this dysfunctional clan, as a double of François-Marie Banier.

No political scandal on the horizon, from which the Bettencourt affair, the real one, cannot get rid of, for this fairly free revisitation of a “certain French history”as Marie Sauvion describes it, excited by the evolution of the character played by Isabelle Huppert, and by a film which “has the decency not to be moved by the fate of the ultra-rich”.

Samuel Douhaire, equally enthusiastic, highlights the “Laffite-show” with its surprising insights, and especially the screenplay and dialogues of Cédric Anger, Jacques Fieschi and director Thierry Klifa, “filmmaker who knows how to tell stories and excellent director of actors and actresses”. As such, very interesting and complex secondary roles manage to exist opposite this duo who “could have cannibalized everything”including Marina Foïs in the role of Marianne Farrère’s daughter, in a cruel search for love. And despite two hours considered a bit long, The richest woman in the worldquality entertainment, even manages to move people.
