“As long as I can pay my bills, I prefer not to think about things like money”

The 1990s were very busy for Keanu Reeves between ‘Speed’, ‘Bram Stocker’s Dracula’, and a wide range of roles and films, although his greatest success came in 1999. That year the first installment of the Matrix saga was released and Reeves became the cyberpunk messiah of the Wachowski sisters.

Although the actor has acknowledged that ‘The Matrix’ changed his life, it seems that fame did not change his way of being too much. The truth is that this young 35-year-old Reeves (he is now 61) was already very clear at that time that you should not obsess over success and as long as it gives you a living, not even that bad.

Keanu never miss you to pay the bills

Born in Beirut (Lebanon), Keanu Charles Reeves is one of those actors that we like because he takes things calmly, is not greedy, shares his success, seems friendly to everyone and gives the impression that his personality was not affected by fame or box office successes. Already in 1999, after the premiere of ‘Matrix‘, he pointed out ways with his philosophy of life.

“I enjoy working as an actor. It’s not the only thing I want to do in my life, but I think it’s the best job. I like it because it gives me the opportunity to work with great people: everyone I meet on a set, from the guy who runs the lights to the directors,” Reeves said in an interview in the summer of ’99.

“Of course there’s a side to success, to fame. With a little luck, the movie is a hit and people want to hire me again because they think they can make enough money off of me.”

“It’s fine with me, it’s the other side of this business. But it’s not the fundamental part of my life. Fortunately, I’ve been able to do what I wanted. As long as I can continue paying my bills, I prefer not to think about things like money, fame or success.”

In fact, we know that the actor agreed to lower his salary by 90% to be able to work with Gene Hackman. Although Keanu Reeves’ career has had its ups and downs, he is now living a new golden age after the phenomenon of the John Wick saga, which could continue with a new film if everyone can agree. In any case, for this Hollywood star, paying the bills doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a problem.
