Actor says Avengers: Doomsday will make audiences believe in superheroes again
Actor Simu Liu, known for playing Shang‑Chi in the Marvel Universe, seems very excited about his return in Avengers: Doomsday. He confessed that when he found out he would be part of the film he felt exactly what made him fall in love with superheroes: the power of feeling included in stories, no matter who we are or where we come from.
The actor described the new film as “a love letter to the entire genre of superhero films”. For him, heroes and comics have always given a voice to those who felt excluded, the nerds, the different, those who don’t fit in, and it is this essence that he thinks the film is trying to rescue.
“I know the world is pretty cynical about it, but I think it’s essential to remember where superheroes and comics themselves came from. They were an inspiration to the outcasts, the ‘weirdos’, the nerds. They were so successful because they conveyed the idea that, no matter who you were or where you came from, you could find the hero within you. That’s what stuck with me when I was younger, and for better or worse, that’s why I still love it. these films.”
For Liu, Avengers: Doomsday could be the film that will make the public believe in superheroes again, and perhaps return some of the magic that the genre has lost. The actor acknowledged that Marvel itself is trying to find the heart of its stories, at a time when the public is more skeptical (and even tired) of heroes.
On the first day of filming, Liu recalled his amazement at the scale of the project:
“I have to be careful not to reveal too much to you. I think it’s fair to say that we’ve had a few days where we’ve had a full base, and you see, like, 20, 30 people on set at the same time. It’s really overwhelming. I mean, talking about imposter syndrome, too, for me. It was definitely a lot to take in, but then people start talking and you start working. Inevitably, you have these moments of pause between takes, and I feel like that’s when, sometimes, real connections happen. Sometimes they don’t, but sometimes it’s just a conversation or something that leads you to something. Then, the next thing you know, it’s like you’re friends, and that, for me, is easily the most meaningful part of the process.”
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, and expectations are enormous, the film promises to bring together great heroes and special appearances.
