Ford F-150, winning team improves. We have proof
Every time a house redesign A model is faced with a choice: significant changes or an incremental development? Ford used the first tactic when he introduced the aluminum body in the 2015 F-150 with a reduction in the overall weight of 318 kg. Now, the blue oval is adopting a more conservative approach with the 2021 F-1550, providing a complete list of minor improvements.
Ford F-150 2021 therefore presents an important debut in the engine range with the new PowerBoost hybrid engine. To this were added other news such as OTA software updates (installed remotely thanks to the Internet connection), the 12 “infotainment display and the Active Driving Assistant semi-autonomous driving system (arriving at the end of 2021). Here is how it works in practical act.

430 HP with the hybrid
The model that we tell you in this test is an F-120 2021 in the Platinum setting, equipped very well with the new powerboost-wheel drive PowerBoost PowerTrain. This is composed of a Biturbo 3.5 -liter V6 combined with an electric motor, inserted between the gas engine and the 10 -speed automatic transmission, for a total power of 430 HP and 773 Nm.
Based on the load on the accelerator, the powerboost can work even in mode a zero emissions. In this case, a clutch disarns the transmission from the engine when it works in pure EV mode. The transition between the various hybrid-EV-Terre methods takes place with the logical selection of the transmission gears which provides a fluid experience.
The PowerBoost system also reduces fuel consumption, thanks to regenerative braking. The on -board computer recorded a value of 12.4 l/100 km in a decidedly hilly and aggressive guide compared to a declared data of 10 l/100 km both in the city and on the highway. However, the hybrid should still excel in low speed driving in the city, where the electric motor will be more effective.
How it goes on the road
On the road, the F-150 is agile in the guide, also in the XL version that we briefly tried on the highway. The electrically Servoassistite steering rack allows you to maintain trajectories without many difficulties even in the winding roads. Despite a rear axis with cross gratings, Ford engineers did a good job in filtering unwanted movements of the bodywork and roughness.
Hard configuration
If the off-road driving drive will be the subject for the next F-1550 Raptor, the traditional version has also managed to overcome most of the light obstacles encountered. This is thanks to attack angles, exit and ramp respectively of 24.3, 25.3 and 20.0 degrees and a minimum light height of 25 centimeters. The brakes are robust and safe, good for long descents with a trailer or something in the body.
Even if it will not be available at the time of launch, the owners of the F-150 will be able to, through an update software OTAequip your vehicle with Active Driving Assistant, the level 3 autonomous driving system.
New 12 “display
The comfort of the seats is first -rate, with a lot of space and a position of the erect seat that offers excellent visibility to the outside. The new enveloping seats will also be available for launch Max Recline which, with the rear bench folded upwards and the reclining front backrests of almost 180 degrees, also allow short stops to relax.

Inside, the Sync 4 infotainment system stands out, displayed on a standard 8 “or 12” standard touchscreen. The system, compatible with Apple CarPlay Wireless and Android Auto, is intuitive and easy to use. Finally, the 12 ”digital dashboard is presented with a clear and beautiful graphics that includes a lot of information.
High tow
To test the towing capacity of the F -150, we equipped the version with the 3.5 -liter EcoBoost V6 revised, which now produces 400 HP and 678 Nm, with a three -axis trailer and a ski boat – total weight: more than 3,600 kg. Although the consistent weight at the rear has dampened the agility and reactivity of the F-150, the pick-up managed to juggle well in the traffic, downloading the power on the ground effectively.

Once the destination of towing, the Pro Trailer Backup Assist (which appeared on the 2016 F-150) makes the reverse with trailer much easier. The driver turns a dial on the dashboard indicating the direction in which the trailer has to go, and the F-150 assumes the driving tasks to ensure that this happens, attenuating the left-right confusion that sometimes you have when reversing with a trailer.
A great worker
Among the most interesting innovations of the F-150 2021 there is the introduction of the Pro Power Omboard, a generator that can produce 2 kW of electricity in the internal combustion version and from 2.4 to 7.2 kW in the hybrid one. The latter is able to make all the tools used in construction works and not medium -sized and includes a 220 V socket in the body which is perfect for welders and other large appliances.

Mobile office
Moving inside, there is the Interior Work Surface, a desk that can be extended either from the central console, on the models with enveloping seats, or with a folding central armrest on those with front bench. The internal work surface is at the right height to position a laptop or a notepad.
