“Frankenstein“, the newest film by renowned Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, has arrived in the Netflix catalog. Known for his monster films and for working with creatures, the director received several awards throughout his career, including three Oscars.

Frankenstein (2025)
Adaptation of the famous novel of the same name by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein is an original Netflix production.
In the plot, Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), an obsessed scientist, challenges the limits of life by creating a creature (Jacob Elordi) that escapes his control. Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz complete the cast.
Pinóquio by Guillermo del Toro (2022)

Guillermo del Toro was loosely based on Carlo Collodi’s novel to create his version of Pinocchio, an animation that uses the stop-motion technique.
The plot follows Pinocchio, a wooden doll created by Geppetto, who comes to life in the middle of fascist Italy. Critically acclaimed, the film won the Oscar for best animation.
Nightmare Alley (2021)

Based on the novel by William Lindsay Gresham, “Nightmare Alley” is a neo-noir that, although a commercial failure, received critical praise.
Headed by big names, the cast includes Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins and Rooney Mara.
In the plot, a man (Cooper) joins a traveling circus and learns mentalism tricks. Years later, he becomes a successful medium, but his ambition leads to tragedies and his own ruin.
The Shape of Water (2017)

One of the most acclaimed films of Guillermo del Toro’s career, The Shape of Water is a multi-award winning fantasy novel. The film won four Oscars, including Best Film and Best Director for Del Toro.
Set in the 1960s, the plot follows a mute janitor (Sally Hawkins) of a secret laboratory, who falls in love with an amphibious creature captured for study and plans to free it.
The cast also includes Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg and Octavia Spencer.

Under different influences, “Pacific Rim” brings kaijus and mechas in a sci-fi film with lots of action.
In the plot, to face giant monsters that emerged from a portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, humanity creates huge robots piloted by mentally linked pairs, capable of fighting them.

The plot follows Hellboy (Ron Perlman), a demon adopted by a scientist, who works in an agency that combats supernatural phenomena. He must stop a sorcerer who tries to open a portal to release ancient demons into the world.
The cast also includes Selma Blair, Jeffrey Tambor, Karel Roden, Rupert Evans and John Hurt.

Blade II: The Vampire Hunter (2002)

From the Blade trilogy with Wesley Snipes, Guillermo del Toro directed the second film, the most critically praised in the series.
In the plot, hybrid hunter Blade (Snipes) accepts a truce with vampires to face mutant creatures. The cast also includes Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman and Norman Reedus.

The Devil’s Backbone (2001)

A Spanish-language production, “The Devil’s Backbone” is one of the most celebrated films of Guillermo del Toro’s career.
In the plot, a boy (Fernando Tielve) is left in an isolated orphanage during the Spanish Civil War and begins to see the ghost of a murdered boy. The cast also includes Marisa Paredes, Eduardo Noriega, Federico Luppi and Irene Visedo.
