When will Zootopia 2 be released on Disney+?

Disney has finally released the long-awaited sequel to one of its biggest hits. Zootopiafrom 2016, was a phenomenon: it achieved a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassed US$1 billion at the box office and even secured the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Even so, it took Disney almost a decade to develop Zootopia 2.

Given the enormous success of the franchise, Disney opted for an exclusive theatrical release before bringing the film to streaming. And although the official date for it to arrive on Disney+ has not yet been announced, the studio’s recent history allows us to predict quite accurately when this should happen.

When Zootopia 2 Should it debut on Disney+?

In recent years, the interval between the theatrical release and the streaming release of Disney productions has varied greatly, depending on the label (Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, 20th Century, etc.). On average, the studio’s main films took around 96 days to reach Disney+. In the specific case of animations, the period is usually even longer.

Since the launch of Disney+ in 2019, six Disney animations have reached streaming, but some are out of line: Raya and the Last Dragon had a simultaneous premiere; Charm e Strange World they reached streaming in just 30 days due to strategies at the time.

The most accurate comparisons for Zootopia 2 are Frozen 2, Wish: the Power of Desires e Moana 2which had windows of 114, 133 and 105 days, respectively – an average of 117 days.

Based on this, the most robust prediction puts Zootopia 2 on Disney+ in March 2026. The window aligns with major animated sequels released by Disney around the same time of year.

• March 20, 2026 (the most logical bet)

March 20th would exactly replicate the 114-day interval Frozen 2. Furthermore, it would be strategically advantageous for Disney, as Face of One, Muzzle of Anothera new animation from Pixar, premieres on March 6. To play Zootopia 2 on Disney+ only in the second half of the month, preventing streaming from competing with the second weekend of the Pixar film.
