Ariana Grande’s steamy kiss scene was CUT from Wicked: For Good because it was ‘too passionate’

|

Ariana Grande filmed an intense kissing scene for her film Wicked: For Good – only for the steamy moment to end up on the cutting room floor.

Her character Galinda, who becomes Glinda the Good Witch, indulges in a liplock with her dashing husband Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).

Shortly thereafter, Fiyero leaves her for her best friend turned rival, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who has become the Wicked Witch of the West.

Now, the film’s co-writer, Dana Fox, has clarified why the kiss was excluded from the musical film.

‘There was a scene between Fiyero and Glinda that we cut where they kissed; It was romantic and beautiful, but a little too passionate,” she told Deadline.

‘Seeing that made it very difficult to see him make the choice he made to stay with Elphaba and it made it very difficult to let go of being okay with Elphaba running away with him. It was very real that he and Glinda were really feeling something together,” Fox explained.

“It was like he really loved her, and he cares about Glinda a lot, don’t get me wrong. But he likes her in a different way,” she continued.

“But that scene was very romantic, so it was like, “Oh, we can’t know that because then our brains will explode when he doesn’t choose her in the end. And then we will hate Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero.” So I think it was a good cut because it was so adorable that you just couldn’t take it,” Fox concluded.

Speaking in general terms about the cuts that were made, the Stanford graduate said, “I don’t think there’s anything I wish we hadn’t cut, because everything we cut, I felt like we cut for exactly the right reasons.”

Fox co-wrote the script for the two-part film with Winnie Holzman, who wrote the book for the 2003 Broadway musical on which the films are based.

The new film’s release made headlines when what appeared to be a crazed fan rushed Grande on the red carpet at the Singapore premiere.

Erivo, who was nearby, went viral for jumping into action and putting herself between Grande and the man lunging at her.

It quickly turned out that the culprit was prankster Johnson Wen, an Australian citizen who is also known as Pajama Man in his career as an influencer.

His trick is to rush celebrities into public events, a feat he has done at concerts by The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd.
