Star of Scream and Scooby Doo, Matthew Lillard only agreed to do Five Nights at Freddy’s because his character “is the Voldemort of the horror universe” – Cinema News

Five Nights at Freddy’s has a strong base of admirers of the game for the cinema, equally faithful and demanding regarding the adaptation of the original material. For fans, it is essential that certain aspects are respected and taken very seriously, as is the case with William Afton, the franchise’s great villain.

To reassure gamers, Matthew Lillard is responsible for playing the character. With a remarkable career in horror cinema, the star of Scream shows that he is very involved in the production and advocates for a faithful and profitable adaptation:

“We want more jump scares. We want to sit in the audience and not just absorb the story of the game universe, but also be overcome with emotions. We want to feel the movie the same way we feel the game. I think they’ve done an incredible job in that regard. And I think the fans are going to go crazy. I think the movie is really fantastic,” Lillard told People.

Mathew Lillard Almost Turned Down Role in Five Nights at Freddy’s

When Matthew received an invitation from director Emma Tammi to do Five Nights at Freddy’s, he was surprised that the role didn’t seem to be significant because of the small number of lines in the script. However, he was convinced by the possibility of expanding the franchise and how much he could work and develop the character over time:

“I think there were only about six lines in the script and I said, ‘Why do you want me for this role? It’s so small. I don’t see anything for me to do.’ And she (Tammi) said, ‘Well, basically, your character is the Voldemort of the universe. And they will never make a film without your character and they will make three films.’ And then I thought, ‘Oh, yes. I’m in.’”, he said in an interview with Comic Book Movie.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 has not yet been officially announced by Universal Pictures, but Lillard has already left several indications of his participation in a third volume. Meanwhile, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which opens next Thursday (4), promises to delve into the origin story of the macabre pizzeria and its killer animatronics.
