The Chevrolet Silverado EV establishes a new autonomy record by traveling 1,059 miles with a single load
How far can an electric vehicle go between two charges? The Chevy Silverado EV was put to the test, and he held more than 1,000 miles.
Chevrolet engineers have chosen a Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck to take up the challenge on Detroit’s public roads in Michigan. They made a few minor modifications to improve efficiency and traveled 1,059.2 miles before hypermender the truck to the last drop of battery juice, which represents an average consumption of 4.9 miles per kilowatt hour.
For truck owners wishing to reproduce the feat, the engineers have maintained a specific pressure for the tires, lowered the wipers, removed the emergency wheel and installed a tape cover. They also maintained their speed between 20 and 25 MPH and turned off the lights and air conditioning.
Compared to the Lucid record, the Silverado EV lasted much longer than the 749 miles traveled by the Air Grand Touring sedan between Saint-Moritz, Switzerland, and Munich, in Germany. However, the feat of the startup was more realistic because it imitated certain real driving conditions such as the motorway cruise.
Kurt Kelty, GM vice-president in charge of batteries, propulsion and sustainable development, congratulated the team that has broken the record: “Getting such autonomy with a full load is not chance. It takes a deep integration of batteries, the efficiency of training units, software and vehicle engineering, and that is exactly what the team has managed to do”
The Chevrolet Silverado EV offers up to 493 miles of autonomy (according to EPA estimates) and 760 hp/785 LB-PI. It is offered from $ 52,800 before incentives.
