Chevrolet Silverado EV: Record autonomy for the electric pick-up …

There are several ways to maximize the autonomy of an electric car, starting by using the energy produced as well as possible. We then think of reducing the tire rolling resistance, the reduction in total mass and, of course, the reduction of the aerodynamic drag. And yet, it is an electric pick-up that has just registered the greatest autonomy for a standard electric car.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV does better than the 1205 km that Lucid Air recently traveled with a battery load. Indeed, the electric pick-up has reached an autonomy of 1059 miles/1704 km between two charges. It is not bad for an electric vehicle almost 6 m long and displaying a mass in walking order of approximately 3.9 T.

How is it possible?

This is the Max Range version of the Electric Silverado Chevrolet Silverado and is equipped with a spectacular capacity of 200 kWh. According to the US standard EPA, the pick-up runs 793 km with this battery, but a group of technicians from the parent company General Motors added an additional 900 km to this already convincing autonomy.

To do this, they took out the malice box. The training unit has not been modified, so the reference car remains a standard Silverado EV. But the tires were inflated to the maximum, the useless ballast as the spare wheel was removed and a fabric was stretched on the loading dump to improve aerodynamics. The car did not drive at more than 40 km/h for the record period, without passengers and without lighting the air conditioning.

The larger the battery, the further you can go. Especially if you adopt an extremely economical driving style. But Chevrolet did not play the game thoroughly. Anyway, the Silverado EV is very efficient.
