Prime Video’s new Christmas film that promises to break the cliché

This Wednesday (3), a new Christmas comedy film arrived in the Prime Video catalog that seems to be completely out of cliché, despite the script featuring that familiar chaos of the end of year festivities: Um. Christmas. Surreal., starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Denis Leary.

Directed by Michael Showalter (An Idea of You, 2024), who also wrote the script alongside Chandler Baker, the film also has more big names in its cast, such as Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dominic Sessa, Jason Schwartzman, Eva Longoria and Joan Chen.

One. Christmas. Surreal.

The story follows Claire (Pfeiffer), a classic matriarch who loves all Christmas traditions. With another end of the year approaching, Claire is preparing to gather her family and all her family at home to celebrate Christmas. Alone, she can handle the impeccable decoration, detailed menu and hand-picked gifts to make the holiday perfect.

During a family outing organized by herself, however, her mother ends up being forgotten at home. Exhausted after having planned everything alone and still being left behind, Claire decides to throw everything away to embark on an adventure: participating in a television contest that will choose the Best Christmas Mother.

As her family tries to find her, Claire discovers the magic of finally experiencing Christmas without having to be in control of everything, which makes her realize that rediscovering herself can also be a great gift.
