A completely absurd record for Chevrolet!

Chevrolet has just been talked about with a feat that, on paper, seems impressive, but in reality …

A electric EV electric EV chevrolet has traveled 1059.2 miles, or 1704 km, with a single load. A world record for an electric vehicle, even doubling the estimated autonomy. But in reality, this “performance” is more from the absurd demonstration of soft endurance than the technological prowess applicable in real life.

Behind this mirobal figure, the reality is much less glorious: the test was carried out over seven days (!!!) at speeds between 30 to 40 km/h, without air conditioning despite the summer heat, over-inflated tires beyond any reasonable limit, wiper oriented to optimize aerodynamics and even windshield regularly cleaned to … win a few more meters? We are close to caricature.

Chevrolet misses the target

Yes, this record is technically indisputable. But it means absolutely nothing for the lambda driver. Who seriously will drive 40 m/h for a week without air conditioning to save watt? Not the pick-up drivers anyway. And even less those who count on a silverado to tow, transport equipment or simply make road.

Chevrolet, and GM more widely, would like to pass this experience for a demonstration of the extreme capacities of their vehicle. In reality, it looks more like a communication operation that takes the consumer for a fool. Showing that an electric vehicle can exceed 1,700 km of autonomy in ridiculous conditions is not innovation is theater.

This kind of test also diverts the attention of the real challenges of electrification: rapid recharging, actual consumption at highway speed, the ability to tow without collapsing, or the durability of the long -term batteries.

The Silverado EV record is the modern version of the snail that wins a race … because it is the only one to compete. Impressive on paper, ridiculous in fact.
