The screenplay, written by Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, Zero Day), explores the workings of power and the psychology of leaders facing the unthinkable: nuclear annihilation. The film does not just depict fear, we also see what leads to it: confusion, indecision, frustration… The director talks about it in an interview with The Guardian :
“I wanted to confront a paradox, to explore the madness of a world that lives under constant threat of annihilation, but rarely talks about it.”

In this fast-paced thriller, Idris Elba once again plays the President of the United States, responsible for managing the American response. His character is caught between the imperatives of national defense and the fear of global conflict, but also his own values. At his side, Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible, Dune) plays a White House advisor with formidable composure.
