Ares will break the franchise’s box office record in its debut
Tron: Ares is on pace to break a franchise record in its opening weekend. The new film is the third chapter in the long-lasting science fiction saga, which began with the 1982 cult classic and was followed up in 2010 with Tron: Or Legacy.
According to the Varietyinitial projections for the launch of Tron: Ares indicate domestic revenue of between US$45 and 50 million in the first three days. This will be more than enough to secure first place at the weekend box office, surpassing its competitor The Good Bandita smaller-scale drama starring Channing Tatum.
If the film reaches this revenue range, it will be the biggest opening in the franchise’s history, surpassing the US$44 million opening weekend of Tron: Or Legacy and well above the US$ 4.7 million of the Tron original.
About the plot
In the story, Ares (Jared Leto) is an advanced program created within the digital world who is sent to the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humanity’s first contact with conscious artificial intelligence.
In the human world, he finds himself divided between two opposing forces: Eve Kim (Greta Lee), a scientist who believes in the ethical use of technology, and Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters), a businessman who wants to explore Ares as a weapon and tool of power.
The narrative promises to unite the digital universe of Grid — classic scenario from the franchise — to the real world, exploring the conflict between creation and creator, technology and humanity, in an era where the boundaries between the two become increasingly blurred.

Cast and behind the scenes
The cast of Tron: Ares brings together great names in current cinema:
- Jared Leto plays the protagonist Ares.
- Greta Lee plays Eve Kim, one of the minds behind the technology that gives rise to the program.
- Evan Peters plays Julian Dillinger, the villain of the plot.
- Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj and Arturo Castro also join the cast.
- Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn, the legendary creator of the system, marking a direct link to the previous films.
Directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil), with a soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Nine Inch Nails), which promise to give the film a darker and more industrial tone — in contrast to the electronic sound of the Daft Punk em Tron: Or Legacy (2010).
Tron: Ares opens in Brazilian cinemas on October 9th.
