In an interview with the CinemaBlend, Stephen Lang commented on Quartich’s fate in Avatar: Fire and Ash, and what he expects for the character in the next films.

WARNING: Spoilers for Avatar: Fire and Ash below

No longa, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) tries to save Quartich during the confrontation between the two characters, however, instead of accepting help, he jumps off a cliff, implying that he would rather sacrifice himself than receive help from his enemy. Lang has commented on the matter, and doesn’t seem to care much about it.

“The phrase I don’t say when I make this decision is ‘What the hell,’ because that’s exactly what it is. It’s a ‘What the hell’ moment,” said Lang. “This is very confusing and complex for me. I’ve done a lot. I’m not going to say anything more on the subject.”

Lang reminded everyone that the character died in the first film before being resurrected in the second. He almost died in the second film, so people need to remember that before writing off the character after this twist in the third film. When Lang calls it a moment “Let it be damaged“, he is mainly referring to how his character can no longer take the fights and conflicts.
