Between turkey and cheese, and to reconcile everyone after a heated discussion, why not watch as a family a film or series that you missed this year? Here are our suggestions.
The year 2025 is coming to an end. But it’s not too late to catch up on anything you might have missed over the past twelve months. Unmissable films and series, but also award-winning albums and books this year, here is a selection of the unmissable 2025 highlights carefully concocted by the BFMTV.com editorial team, which you can (re)discover during the winter holidays.
Films
Zootopia
It’s hard to miss a big screen phenomenon, that of this end of year, released in November and which, since then, has been breaking box office records. Agents Jody Hopps and Nick Wilde return to service in this second part of Zootopiawhich this time will propel them on the trail of a venomous snake.
Zootopia 2 is still in theaters. The first Zootopia can be found on Disney+.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
The other essential film of the end of the year is obviously the third film Avatar of James Cameron, baptized Of fire and ashesreleased this Wednesday, December 17. So return to Pandora, where Jake and Neytiri must face a new tribe that does not only want them well, the Na’vi, in addition to tirelessly confronting the men of the sky – or the humans, led by the indestructible Colonel Miles Quaritch.

“Frankenstein” – Netflix
Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro takes on a literary monster, Frankensteinof the novel by Mary Shelley, in a faithful adaptation praised by critics and the press. We follow, as in the original story, the inevitable fall of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant and proud surgeon, who gave new life to a monstrous creature which will lead to his downfall. With, in the cast, Christoph Waltz, Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, or Mia Goth.

“Wake up dead man: a tale of daggers drawn” – Netflix
Benoît Blanc, the extravagant detective played by Daniel Craig, is back for a particularly arduous investigation which seems to be a miracle. In a small church on the east coast of the United States, a priest, true guru of a small community, dies under mysterious circumstances. For this investigation, Benoît Blanc collaborates with a young priest played by Josh O’Connor, who will help him unravel the affair. Captivating and served by an impressive line-up of actors, starting with Glenn Close, in very good form.

“Kpop Demon Hunter” – Netflix
The Christmas holidays are perhaps the ideal time to sit down together to watch the phenomenon film of this year 2025, which is setting the playgrounds ablaze. It is in particular thanks to its songs that the animated film, released this summer, established itself among young audiences.

“The Gorge” – Apple TV+
Two highly trained soldiers, each on their own, monitor a (very) deep gorge, where a mysterious danger resides. On either side of this impassable chasm, they begin to communicate, then to fraternize… Anya Taylor-Joy (The Lady’s Gambit) and Miles Teller (Top Gun) form a nice duo, serving this effective action film.

“Stiller and Meara: Nothing is Lost” – Apple TV+
In this documentary full of charm and nostalgia, actor Ben Stiller and his sister Amy explore the family archives by emptying their parents’ apartment. Delving back into their own youth and their memories, they tell the story of Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, a couple of actors, famous in the 1960s. They have created a moving and sensitive documentary.

Series
“Severance”, saison 2 – Apple TV+
The American series Severanceimagined by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller (again) created an event at the start of the year with the release of its season 2, which takes us back to the dystopian universe of Lumon Industries, where Mark and his colleagues experience the dissociation of their professional and private lives.

“Stanger Things” – Netflix
The grand finale of Stranger Things approach with the broadcast, in November then in December, of the first two breathtaking bursts of episodes of season 5, before a final part on January 1st. A final fight to the death for the people of Hawkins, who try to prevent Vecna from absorbing the human world – and the army from getting their hands on Eleven.

“The Seasons” – Arte
A love triangle, a Vendée seaside resort and three decades: the melodrama imagined by Nicolas Maury and Hélène Duchateau depicts the romance of three characters, Alexandre, Camille and Martin (played by Stéphane Caillard, Lucas Bravo and Géraldine Pailhas) from their adolescence to adulthood.

“Empathy” – Canal+
A neurotic psychiatrist with a dark past finds herself managing unmanageable patients in the D wing of a psychiatric institute: the series Empathy tells with emotion and humor – in Quebecois – the life of Suzane Bien-aimee, Florence Longpré, supported in her task by equally endearing characters, including Mortimez, played by Thomas Ngijol.

“Adolescence” – Netflix
In 2025, it’s difficult to miss the phenomenon mini-series Adolescencepassed from Netflix to schools or the British Parliament. The series, which deals with the problems of social media abuse among young people, tells the story of Jamie Miller, 13, accused of the murder of a classmate. With four Golden Globe nominations and six Primetime Emmy Awards, Adolescence is definitely worth watching urgently if you haven’t done so yet!

“Of the Living” – France Télévisions
The tribute series to the survivors of November 13 available on france.tvtells the story of seven of the eleven hostages of the Bataclan who waited to die, for two and a half hours, in a narrow corridor on the first floor of the auditorium, saved at the last minute by the attack of the BRI (Research and Intervention Brigade). With the years and the trauma, these seven, nicknamed the “potages” – a contraction of “buddies” and “hostages” – became friends. A shocking series, released on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the attackers, not to be missed.

“The Missing from the Station” – Disney+
The Disney mini-series returns to a real news story, the disappearance in the 1990s of four young women near the Perpignan station. Camille Razat, seen in Emily in ParisHugo Becker, Mélanie Doutey, Patrick Timsit are in the cast of this series which traces the investigation, which, thirty years later, is still continuing.

“Slow Horses”, saison 5 – Apple TV+
If you followed the four previous seasons of the adventures of Jackson Lamb and his band of relegated MI5 spies, you have undoubtedly rushed to this fifth season available on Apple TV since September 24. But if you don’t know yet, it’s time to binge this very British spy series, served by Gary Oldman, as a sloppy old spy with questionable hygiene, but formidable in the field, and Kristin Scott Thomas, as the manipulative and dangerous boss of MI5. You may not have enough of the Christmas holidays for any “binge watcher”.

“Fallout, Season 2” – Prime Video
The second season of the series adapted from the famous post-apocalyptic video game has just been released on Prime Video. The duo Lycy (Ella Purnell) and The Goule (Walton Goggins) are back for crazy and tragicomic adventures.

“The Studio” – Apple TV+
Multi-awarded at the last Emmy Awards, the series by and with Seth Rogen tells the setbacks of a film-loving studio boss, but forced to produce commercial films, and with the slightest courage to impose his choices. The behind-the-scenes and tricks of Hollywood, told from the inside, with lots of self-mockery and brilliant cameos from Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard in almost their own roles.
