Behind the scenes of the 100% French special effects of “The Shrinking Man”


Jan Kounen and Mac Guff Ligne, it’s a lasting affair. From his first steps behind the camera, around thirty years ago, the director relied on the know-how of the magicians of this French special effects company which has nothing to envy of its American counterparts, despite much lower budgets.

With The Shrinking Manthe virtuosos of Mac Guff faced one of their biggest challenges: competing with a classic of American science fiction from the 1950s, while giving substance to the grandiose visions of a Jan Kounen whose imagination is more fertile than ever. Rodolphe Chabrier, creative producer of the film’s visual effects, and François Bonnière, computer-generated images supervisor, tell us some of their manufacturing secrets.
