Byd fires and dominates segment
As competitors like Volvo, Renault and BMW sell little, the Chinese automaker reaches historical numbers
The electric car market in Brazil follows with rapid growth and BYD’s isolated leadership in May 2025 draws a lot of attention. In the period analyzed, the Chinese manufacturer reached an impressive total of 5,596 units, representing more than 80% of national sales.
Among the best selling electric cars in May 2025, the highlight was the Byd Dolphin Mini, which alone reached the mark of 2,576 vehicles sold. With this, the urban compact was responsible for 37.1% of participation in the segment. Just behind, another model of the brand, Dolphin, made 1,864 units, ensuring a slice of 26.9% of the market.
In addition, Byd Yuan closed the podium in third place, with 751 units sold. The brand’s performance exceeded traditional automakers like Volvo, Renault and BMW. Volvo, for example, added only 514 sales, with modest 7.4% stake.
Volvo and Renault try to follow, but are far behind the Chinese leader
Following the ranking, the Volvo Ex30 appears as a fourth best -selling electric car, with 429 units that are elapsed during the month. Fifth, BYD SEAL registered 388 units, demonstrating that the Chinese automaker not only leads, but also occupies several positions among the most sought after models by Brazilian consumers.
