“Chainsaw Man” film celebrates successful cinema release in Germany

On Thursday, “Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc” was released by Sony Pictures in 369 German cinemas and, with its first number of visitors, joins the current anime boom. We summarize below.

Successful premiere

With a total of 35,000 tickets sold and box office receipts of 430,000 euros, the anime screen spin-off took first place in yesterday’s cinema charts. Around 120,000 cinemagoers are forecast for the opening weekend, which would be a solid success in any case – even if the first part of the “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” trilogy sold almost five times as many tickets a few weeks ago.

In Japan, the “Chainsaw Man” sequel has so far brought in 6.5 billion yen (around 36.6 million euros), including 1.3 billion yen (around 7.5 million euros) in the first weekend. The worldwide box office revenue currently amounts to 68.3 million US dollars (the equivalent of approximately 58.7 million euros).

In terms of content, the film follows on directly from the first season of the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The streaming service Crunchyroll has all twelve episodes in its program with German and Japanese language options and also released them on DVD and Blu-ray.
