Chevrolet Silverado EV surprises with 867 km in reach

If on the one hand electric cars still crawl in Brazil, markets like the United States can already afford to have models of all types and bodies, usually oscillating between two extremes: maximum efficiency and brute force of batteries. This is the case of Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck 2025, the ” Basicona ” version of the work -oriented pickup truck that has an estimated 792 km EPA autonomy with a single load.

But in a new test performed by the automotive publication Edmundsthe pickup surpassed this mark: it traveled impressive 867 km in a mixed city and road-becoming the largest electric vehicle ever tested by the site. This result represents 75 km more than the official estimate and puts Silverado EV ahead of the former record holder in the country, GMC Sierra EV Denali, who had reached 816 km in the same test.

The measurement was made in a course consisting of 60% of urban use and 40% highway, with an average speed of 64 km/h. Climatic conditions also favored: the test occurred in California, with temperatures close to 18 ° C – ideal for battery performance, which operate with lower internal resistance when the climate is milder, maximizing real autonomy.

Chevrolet did not use technological tricks in Silverado to reach this feat. The autonomy comes from the huge 205 kWh battery, the same used by other large GM models, such as Hummer EV and Cadillac Scale IQ. However, it is much simpler than its “brothers”: no giant screens, refined leather or flashy wheels. This deviation of equipment helps to reduce weight, helping the pickup to go even further than Sierra EV Denali, stuffed with pampering and resources.

Even so, Silverado EV is not cheap. The 2WT entry version starts from $ 55,000 (about $ 314,622), but brings a smaller battery with an estimated autonomy of 454 km. The tested version was 8WT, which starts at $ 76,650 ($ 438,468). The 4WT variant can tow up to 4,535 kg and carry a payload of 635 kg, thanks to double engines with 510 hp and 80.1 kgfm of torque.

In terms of energy efficiency, electric pickups still leave to be desired because of their size and weight. Silverado EV WT had an average consumption of 45.3 kWh every 160 km – that is, about 3.5 km per kWh. Within the universe of electric pickups, the consumption of Silverado EV WT is compatible with that of rivals. Tesla Cybertruck reached 4.0 km/kWh in the test of InsideEVs US at 112 km/h constant. The Rivian R1T 2025, with double engine and 149 kWh battery, delivered about 4.3 km/kWh to a separate test.

Industry executives have recently criticized the weight gain of large electric vehicles. Ford CEO Jim Farley even said that making more efficient SUVs and electric pickups would be an “insoluble” problem during a brand results conference at the end of 2024.

Nevertheless, here we are in 2025 with an electric pickup that can already be bought and that travels almost 870 km with a single charge. It is enough to travel from Boise (Idaho) to Jackson (Wyoming) with over 160 km of spare autonomy-or make a round trip between Dallas and Houston without having to stop to recharge.
