Criticism: “Gabby’s Magic House – The Movie” (Gabby’s Dolhinhase: The Movie)

There is something curious about “Gabby’s magic house – the movie.” Behind the rainbow of glitter and sunny songs, the feature carries a sensitivity that goes beyond the children’s universe that shapes it. It is an adventure designed for the little ones, but packed by such an exaggerated aesthetics that, at times, it seems like a trip inside the head of a colorful, unpredictable and emotionally sincere child.

The plot is simple, and that’s just where it lives part of your charm. Gabby, interpreted by Laila Lockhart cranestravel with grandmother Gigi (lived by Gloria Estefan) When his valuable doll house falls into the hands of the eccentric vera (Christian wiig). What follows is a journey that mixes imagination and urgency, while Gabby and his fellow companions embark on a mission to recover what was lost. Everything seems out of a childish dream and it is exactly this logic that the movie embraces, without fear of being too playful.

Animation is the pulsating heart of the project. Each scene is a parade of sparkles, saturated colors and constant movementalmost as if the movie feared the silence. This visually chaotic aesthetics can be exhaustive to adults, but it is irresistible to the audience that really matters here: children. There is a charm in the exaggeration, a naive joy that is not explained rationally, and the feature understands that very well.

Kristen Wiig, as always, injects charisma and energy into any touch paper. His Vera is a peculiar villain, less because he is evil and more for living in a completely his own universe. Wiig dominates the art of transforming eccentric characters into something captivatingand here is no different. Already Laila Lockhart Kraner brings such a great naturalness to the protagonist that it is easy to be carried away by his excitement and sweetness.

It is undeniable that the film extends a little more than it should in its third act. There is a moment when the story seems to revolve around itself, as if the script tried to find a new conflict in a plot that had already been emotionally resolved. Still, it is difficult to be severe with a work that overflows good intentions and delivers exactly what it promises: A sweet, visually charming and careful adventure.

“Gabby’s magic house – the movie” is like a fast food dessert: fun, colorful, satisfactory at the moment, but forgotten as soon as the credits go up. This, however, is not a defect is a characteristic of a childhood cinema, which lives from the moment, the fantasy and the joy of seeing the impossible way. For those who grew up with drawings that talked directly with the public, there is something nostalgic and comforting in this kind of narrative that still believes in the power of imagination as a discovery tool.

As much as it does not bring great film ambitions, the film fulfills its mission with lightness and affection. And perhaps it is precisely this honesty that makes him sympathetic even to adults who, between one laugh and another, end up remembering when they believed that toys had their own lives.
