Do you miss Sidney? She’s back in the Scream 7 trailer!
We’re really going to have to stop answering unknown numbers. Almost 30 years after his debut in front of Wes Craven’s camera, Sidney has clearly not learned his lesson. A new phone call will turn his life into horror… again. With Scream 7the actress Neve Campbell is officially back in the race. As a reminder, she left the franchise in 2022 following financial disputes. She felt that its cachet did not match its importance to the saga. The sixth film was made without her, with Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera as the headliners.
The two actresses had to return for Scream 7, then in the hands of Christopher Landon. Barrera was ousted from the project after taking positions on social media in favor of Palestine. Jenna Ortega left some time later, without mentioning the reasons for this abandonment. At the same time, it was the director Christopher Landon who announced his withdrawal. He said on social media: “It was a dream job and it turned into a nightmare. My heart is broken for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”. It’s now Kevin Williamson who is responsible for the production of this film which we imagine is very different from the first version. The man who wrote the script for the very first film is also here writing alongside Guy Busick.
A sequel that returns to the origins?
It’s not just behind the scenes that Scream 7 sounds like a return to basics. In the writing too, it is more or less a question of relying on recipes that have proven themselves to attract a new audience as well as satisfy aficionados. Exit New York, this seventh film returns to a small American town. When a new Ghostface appears in the town where Sidney calls home, his worst nightmares resurface. His daughter, played by Isabel May, becomes the killer’s new target and Sidney has no choice but to resume the fight. She will have to face her past.

It remains to be seen now if the saga itself is not too focused on the past, if it does not also bring with it demons that are difficult for it to fight. It is clear that the first film remains unbeatable and that no sequel has managed to stand out in the same way. We would be tempted to say that this Scream 7 feels like a conclusion, that the return of Neve Campbell is an opportunity to draw a line under this entire section of the history of horror in cinema. But Hollywood really doesn’t like to kill its successful licenses…
