Does Zootopia 2 have a post-credits scene? – Cinema News

Zootopia won the Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2017 and now, almost ten years later, Disney brings Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde back to the screen. The animation premieres tomorrow, November 27th, in Brazilian cinemas.

Post-credits scenes began as surprises at the end of superhero films, but ended up becoming commonplace in most blockbusters. Nowadays, even children’s animations require the viewer to spend a few extra minutes in the movie theater waiting for the technical team’s roll call to arrive.

This is the case with Zootopia 2, which has a bonus right before the lights come on, unlike the first film. Released almost a decade ago, in 2016, Zootopia did not have any extra scenes because such practice was not that frequent and there were no plans for possible sequels.

Now, however, after the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and the commercial success of the original, Disney is determined to expand the franchise. This stance is very well reinforced by the additional minutes of the sequence, as it opens up narrative possibilities for Zootopia 3 or other derivative productions.

What happens in the Zootopia 2 post-credits scene?

Attention! From this point onwards, the article contains spoilers about the ending of Zootopia 2.

Walt Disney Animation Studios

Zootopia 2 has a single bonus scene that actually takes place at the end of all the credits. There is no foray into the middle of the list, only at the end. In it, we see Judy Hopps at the window of her apartment using her carrot-shaped recording pen — a very important device for the development of the plot!

She listens to the recording of Nick saying “I love you, partner” over and over again with a delighted look in her eyes until her neighbors interrupt her reverie. They shout through the walls and exchange barbs about Judy’s desire for validation, something that is countered by an ironic cut from the bunny.

Jokes aside, the most important moment in the post-credits happens when Judy leaves the scene and we see a close-up of the carrot pen. Suddenly, a single bird feather slowly falls onto the table and lands next to the recorder.

What does Zootopia 2’s post-credits scene say about the future of the franchise?

Even though Zootopia 3 has not yet been officially confirmed by Disney, the post-credits scene leaves a lot of room for another sequel.

The way Judy is in relation to her feelings for her work partner Nick Wolf could be something explored as a romance in the future or as a way to deepen the character’s need to feel recognized and validated by others. Plus, there’s the big tip of the feather. It brings forward the unprecedented introduction of birds into the Zootopia universe in the same way that reptiles were introduced in the second volume.
