Domingo Maior today shows the film Invasion with Gabrielle Union

TV Globo shows the suspense film Invasão on Domingo Maior today, November 30th. The exhibition starts in the early hours of Monday, at 00:40 (Brasília time), after the Circuito Sertanejo.

What is today’s Big Sunday movie about?

Invasion, the title chosen for the end of the night, is directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta). The film wastes no time getting into the action, if we can call it that: No sooner have Shaun Russell (Gabrielle Union) and his two children, teenage daughter Jasmine (Ajiona Alexus) and younger son Glover (Seth Carr), arrived at the isolated mansion of Shaun’s estranged father, Isaac (Damien Leake), than a quartet of thieves reveal themselves. Isaac, who is murdered in a pre-credits sequence, has left a small fortune in a safe hidden somewhere on the heavily guarded estate, and a surly Eddie (Billy Burke) and his cronies want to get their hands on the money.

It’s a simple and (almost) entirely single-location game, all very much in line with screenwriter Ryan Engle’s work on two similar thrillers with Jaume Collet-Serra, Non-Stop (2014) and The Commuter (2018). Shaun must rely on her peculiar mothering skills to survive the attack and keep her family safe. But she presents herself less as a determined person and more as a construct created from the DNA of other cinema’s most memorable survivalist characters, such as John McClane in Die Hard (she spends much of the film dangerously barefoot), Meg Altman in Panic Room (she is a devoted mother under siege by criminals) and, more cartoonishly, Kevin McCallister in Home Alone (she uses whatever is at hand, be it the stem of a broken wine glass or a toy drone with camera, to repel your clumsy enemies).
