Doomsday officially confirms star Chris Evans’ return as Captain America

It’s now official: Chris Evansthe star of Captain America, will be back in Avengers : Doomsday.

The minute-long trailer, which is not yet available online, begins with a familiar figure parked on a motorcycle in front of a 1950s-style house. After carefully putting away his Captain America uniform, Evans appears, holding a baby in his arms. The trailer then fades to black, before on-screen text confirms: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” » Finally, we see a countdown clock that counts down the months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds until Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters one year from now on December 18, 2026.

Earlier today, Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo released their own teaser for their upcoming Marvel blockbuster, exactly 12 months before its theatrical release, with the countdown now seen in the Steve Rogers reveal trailer.

And as IGN reported this morning, fans flocked to theaters around the world today to see Avatar: Fire and Ash in hopes of seeing the Doomsday trailer, but many (not all) were disappointed. Disney appears to have limited the release of the trailer so far, with excerpts posted on social media still being removed for copyright reasons.

For many Marvel fans, Evans’ return won’t come as a big surprise. In addition to the trailer leaking online this week, filming rumors from this summer appeared to show the secret construction of a 1950s-style house, the design of which many fans recognized from the final scene of Avengers: Endgame. Fans have also spent a lot of time analyzing recent photos of Evans’ arms in real life, and noticed that he appears to have regained his Captain America physique.

Today, Marvel removed the spoiler for good, clearly wanting to encourage audiences to expect more from Evans’ character, a year before Doomsday’s release.

So what’s going on here, story-wise? Of course, the last time we saw Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame, he was heading off to return the Infinity Stones to their original places across reality. After that, he was supposed to return to the present, but he stayed in the 1950s, apparently to lead a peaceful life with his beloved Peggy Carter.

But fans believe there’s more to the story, a story that would take place before Steve appeared as an old man and handed over his shield to Sam Wilson, which also happened in Endgame. Would Steve’s multiversal mission have caught the attention of Doctor Doom, creating a new rivalry between Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans’ characters?

The idea of ​​a sequel for Steve Rogers was also mentioned by Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame and Doomsday, as early as 2021. Could everything that happens in Doomsday (and Secret Wars) take place before Steve puts his shield back on? And how will the fact that Steve Rogers is now a father translate? Will her baby be kidnapped by Doctor Doom, just like Franklin, the son of Sue and Reed Richards? We will have to wait 12 long months before we find out.

Disney’s theatrical release of the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday would be just the first of four separate trailers that will be released alongside Avatar over the next four weeks, aiming to keep viewers coming back to see the film and entertain them with a series of big reveals. The confirmation of Steve Rogers’ return is certainly a good start.
