Family stories through time in SEMINCI | Present

Valladolid

The 70th edition of the Valladolid International Film Week has premiered in its Official Section ‘Golpes’, the first film by Rafael Cobos (winner of two Goya awards for best script for The minimal island y The man of a thousand faces). Set in the Transition and with codes that refer to cinema five which devastated the box office in those years, Cobos offers a tense story of robberies with two brothers as protagonists, one a policeman and the other a thief, played by Luis Tosar and Jesús Carroza.

We return with Cobos to a territory known in other stories that he has already told us through the scripts of ‘Grupo 7’ or ‘La Isla Mínima’. The one he brings to Valladolid is his first foray into feature film. In the press conference after the screening of the film, he reflected on the differences and implications that exist in the writing and production work.

Sergei Loznitsa attended the 70th Seminci to present the Spanish premiere ofTwo prosecutors’, competing for the Golden Spike. The Ukrainian filmmaker and author, inspired by real events, offers a story in which the History of the USSR dialogues with the present of today’s Russia.

Based on the autobiography of Soviet physicist and activist Georgy Demidov, abrings closer to the viewer an x-ray of the USSR at the time of the Great Stalinist Purge, for which millions of people were accused, detained or executed. In 1937, a young prosecutor receives a letter notifying him of possible torture in a prison. Suspecting that these are false accusations, the protagonist begins a journey through the labyrinths of bureaucracy and corruption with the aim of meeting the prisoner and reaching the truth.
