Film-Kritik zu „Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere“
Elton John has one, Robbie Williams has one, Bob Dylan, Elvis, Freddie Mercury – films about their lives. Now it’s time The Boss a: Bruce Springsteen. But this is actually less rocking than we would expect from him. “Rocketman” about Elton John was, above all, dazzling. In Better Man, Robbie Williams was played by a monkey. “Bohemian Rhapsody,” about Freddie Mercury, was glorifying.

What is the movie “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” about?
“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” is only about a short period in the life of The Bossjust about the creation of an album. “Nebraska” from 1982.
A year earlier, after the first chart hits and a successful tour: Even before his breakthrough with “Born in the USA,” Bruce Springsteen retreated to a rented house in New Jersey to find out where he wanted to go with his music. Severely depressed, he records what is probably his most personal – some critics say his best – album: “Nebraska”.
“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere”: not a classic biopic
Director Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”, “Enemies – Hostiles”, “The Memorable Case of Mr. Poe”) does not tell a classic biopic with “Springsteen”. He doesn’t work hard on big hits and appearances. There are repeated black and white flashbacks to Springsteen’s childhood: the difficult relationship with his alcoholic and violent father becomes the blueprint for coming to terms with himself, his demons and his music.
The film with “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White in the lead role as Bruce Springsteen is rather a very minimalist, intimate, sober film. No glitz, no glamour, no spectacle. But with unusually open and honest insights into an artist’s soul that is still searching.
Bob Dylan’s life has also been captured on screen:

Film Review: Jeremy Allen White Cast as Bruce Springsteen in ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’
Jeremy Allen White plays the songwriter vulnerable, almost modest. He recorded the songs himself and was observed benevolently from above: by Bruce Springsteen himself. White tries not to imitate Springsteen, but rather shows an artist in a creative crisis. An artist who created great art in a dark moment.
He listened to the songs and told me: ‘You sing very well. You sound like me, but not exactly like me. And you make the song your own.’ He wanted the whole process to feel like that for me. I think he gave me permission very early on to understand it in my own way and to contribute myself, which was important.
