first teaser and a title that raises questions for the highly anticipated sequel

The continuation of Godzilla Minus One has just revealed a short teaser to confirm its title. A title that leaves you with a few questions…

With $113 million grossed worldwide, Godzilla Minus One was not only a success in Japan. It was even the first time that a non-American film based around the King of the Monsters was such a hit outside its borders. Add to that a well-deserved Oscar for best visual effects (especially when we know that the film only cost $15 million), and it makes sense that the prestigious Toho studio decided to entrust a “sequel” project to its director Takashi Yamazaki.

This decision may even have been surprising, since in recent years, iterations of Godzilla have chosen to forget his long timeline for “ one shot » entrusted to interesting authors (Shin Godzilla in mind). The timeline created by Godzilla Minus Onewhich returns to the original trauma linked to the creation of the kaiju (the defeat of the Second World War and the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki), seems to require a total reboot, as the teaser for its sequel implies.

Godzilla Minus One More Time

This Monday, November 3, Godzilla Fest 2025 took place in Tokyo, and Toho took the opportunity to share a short teaser, revealing the title and logo (designed by Takashi Yamazaki himself) of the sequel to Godzilla Minus One. The film will therefore be titled Godzilla Minus Zero. No information has been shared on the storyline, although we know that it will be a direct sequel to Minus Onewith the return of its main characters.

TheWrap supposed that this title could suggest an even stronger return to the sources, in the manner ofa reimagining of Ishiro Honda’s original film. Released in 1954, the feature film took place at the time of its production, less than a decade after the end of the war. Minus One had made the choice to go back in time again… perhaps to catch up with the absolute classic of Japanese cinema?

Godzilla Minus Zero began filming last August. Although Toho has not yet confirmed a release date, it seems logical that the studio is targeting the end of the year 2026 for maximum engagement. Bigger and stronger, the film seems to benefit from a more comfortable budget and an increased scale thanks to the worldwide success of its predecessor.
