Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome is a transatlantic on wheels with surprising consumption | Assessment

From Brazil: Feijoada, samba, soccer, cheese bread and guarana. From the United States: baseball, football, shopping malls, cars and utilities. Nations separated by a distance of approximately 6,800 km, but which began to share a trend: the great full size pickup trucks.

With proportions of transatlantic wheels and premium segment finish, these trucks exceed R $ 500 thousand and arouse curiosity and attention where they go through the generous size. Ford’s F-Series line was born in 1948 as the first project of the blue oval brand after World War II. Since then, it has become one of the best-selling vehicle families in the United States.

The arrival of F-150 to Brazil took place in April 2023, in Lariat and Platinum versions, both equipped with the iconic V8 5.0 Coyote naturally aspirated, coupled with the ten-speed automatic transmission. After 16 months of presence in Brazil, line 2025 landed last year with a Punctual Facelift and Lariat Chrome and Lariat Black, both for $ 560,000. The trio is reinforced by the tremor version (R $ 580 thousand), prepared to face trails in the best heavy metal style.

Ford F-150 is a battleship ready for everything

Lowering lower than RAM 1500 Laramie (from R $ 584,990) and Chevrolet Silverado High Country (initials R $ 573,590), the Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome appears as the most affordable Full Size truck in the Brazilian market. The value remains unchanged for the Lariat Black version, which brings only aesthetic changes with darkened finishes.

For those who face urban traffic often, the size of the F-150 can intimidate. It’s 5.89 meters long, 2.08 m wide and almost 2 meters high. But it is enough for a few minutes behind the wheel so that the coexistence is natural – the merit of the position of high guide, excellent visibility to the front and side, as well as an arsenal of electronic assistants that soften the driving in any situation.

The generous wheelbase of 3.69 m ensures plenty of space in the cabin. That is, the Ford F-150 is literally a living room on wheels-both in front and second row. Compared to the rivals, she beats the RAM 1500 Laramie on the wheelbase (3.67 m) and is behind Chevrolet Silverado High Country (3.74 m).

If those who buy a pickup truck are interested in how much load can carry, the Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome bucket offers a 1,370 liters volumetric capacity and 740 kg load (671 kg in the tremor version). One of the differentials of the utility is the rear cover with the central portion offering side opening, in Fiat Toro style, facilitating access even with coupled tow.

This volume of the Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome bucket surpasses the RAM 1500 Laramie (1,200 liters and 557 kg), which is differentiated by the Rambox system (two 107 liters compartments on the sides of the bucket). Already Chevrolet Silverado High Country takes advantage in total volume: are 1,781 liters, with 716 kg of load capacity.

V8 real, with Mustang pedigree

While the RAM went to the side of the turbocharger, Ford remained faithful to the naturally aspirated V8. And what a v8 propeller! This is the 5.0 Coyote, the same used at Mustang, married to a 10-speed automatic box. Delivery is visceral: 405 hp and 56.7 kgfm, enough to take it from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. The top speed is 180 km/h.

When driving in a rest, the bubbling sound of the V8 – also found at Chevrolet Silverado – invades the cabin by turning off the radio just to enjoy this mechanical symphony. However, when pressing tightly the accelerator pedal the sound changes radically conveying a song that only an eight -cylinder thrust in V is able to produce!

RAM 1500 Laramie is more powerful – 426 hp and 64.8 kgfm – and faster (0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 s), but loses efficiency. According to the Inmetro Vehicle labeling program, the Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome records 6.5 km/l in the city and 8.5 km/l on the road. RAM consumption is 6 km/le 7 km/l, respectively.

During our evaluation, it surprised with 8.5 km/l in urban use-thanks to the cylinder deactivation system and the smooth start-stop start-stop. Start-Stop’s performance is virtually imperceptible, whether when turning off or recloses the propeller with eight cylinders in V. The 136 liter tank is superior to that of rivals. In fact, to compare the RAM 1500 Laramie takes 125 liters, and the 91 -liter High Country Chevrolet.

Comfort worthy of a luxury SUV

Despite the endangered size, the F-150 is extremely comfortable. Merit of independent front suspension with overlapping arms and rear rigid axle with refined hit. The set guarantees soft driving even with the empty bucket, referring to the standard of the great American sedans of the past, such as Ford Taurus and Crown Victoria.

The RAM 1500 has a five -way pneumatic adjustment – a technical differential – but Ford compensates with well -calibrated electric steering: light on maneuvers, firm and accurate at high speed. And for those who want driving modes, the Ford utility has a stuffed menu.

The F-150 Lariat has seven driving modes (normal, slippery, off-road, rock crawl, sport, echo and trailer) and 4 × 4 traction, reduced and 4 × 4 auto. For those facing off-road, 24.3º input angle and 25.3º at the exit, with a free ground height of 23.9 cm are available. Brake -trailer is 3,492 kg with 275/60 tires mounted on 20 ”chrome wheels.

Ford F-150 offers a spacious cabin

The interior of the Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome pickup truck is wide, comfortable and well finished-though not as refined as the 1500 Laramie RAM. The list of equipment is complete: banks with electric adjustments (10 driver positions, 8 for passenger), heating and ventilation, adjustable pedals, panoramic sunroof and 12 -inch digital instrument frame.

The multimedia center is also 12 ″, with Apple Carplay and Android Auto Wireless. The Bang & Olufsen sound system with 14 speakers delivers premium quality, and the 360 ° cameras facilitate any maneuver. In addition, the second row also has heated seats.

Safety, the Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome features eight airbags and a series of assistants: autonomous braking with pedestrian and intersection detection, frontal collision alert, electronic traction control, stability and anti-canopotation. In addition, there is the wizard trailer assistant protrailer system, with trailer oscillation control, automatic lighthouse, front/rear sensors, curved assistant, blind spot and track centralization.

Verdict

The Ford F-150 Lariat Chrome is the most affordable Full Size truck in Brazil-and leaves nothing to be desired. Imposing, comfortable, fun to guide and with a V8 that delivers a unique and even efficiency sound, it is a gateway to those who want to live the true spirit of American pickup trucks.

It may not have the luxury of RAM 1500 or the volume of bucket of Chevrolet Silverado, but Ford’s pickup truck delivers balance and performance in an irresistible formula. It is a living classic, with muscle car DNA and modern warrior size.
