The Ford F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in the United States, as well as one of the best-selling in absolute world. The Ford F-1550 Lightning (which in English means lightning) is the first electrical pick-up of the American house. It is a very important vehicle for the company’s energy transition, which was also previewed by the American president Joe Biden.

Ford F-1550 Lightning: features and charging

—

The Ford F-150 is equipped with a liquid cooled battery, available in two different sizes. The standard guarantees up to 370 km of autonomous e la long range up to 482 km. The Long Range model has 563 HP, power capable of shooting it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds. The engines on the Standard Range variant provide 426 HP. All models are equipped with two engines, one at the front and one at the rear, installed directly to the wheels. Depending on the battery, the electric F-150 will be characterized by a different AC charger (therefore a solution to be used to make “full” at home). Those with the standard battery will have a 11.3 kW single charger, while the models with the Long Range battery will have a double charger with a power up to 19.2 kW. The F-150 Lightning with the standard battery pack will be offered with an optional 48A charger, capable of loading the battery from 15 to 100% in about 10 hours. The models equipped with the Long Range battery can connect to an 80A domestic charger and restore from 15 to 100% of the energy in about 8 hours. Using a 150kw DC public column, the F-1550 Lightning takes 41 minutes to load from 15 to 80%. The F-150 is the first vehicle of the F series to be equipped with an independent rear suspension, a change that reduces the mass not suspended and should therefore improve handling and comfort.

PRICES

—

The starting price is 39,974 dollars (without incentives), the equivalent of 32,753 euros at the gearbox in which we write. $ 10,000 are needed for the long range variant. The F-150 Lightning is available in four different arrangements and in the most equipped configurations the price can exceed 60 thousand dollars.

Perfect for work and as PowerBank

—

The useful load capacity is 2,000 pounds (900 kg), while the towing capacity of over 4,500 kg. The F-1550 Lightning is compatible with the new Intelligent Backup Power system that makes it possible to use the energy stored in its battery to power a house during a blackout. In fact, the system has the ability to distribute up to 9.6 kW of energy (compared to 7.2 kW of the F-150 Hybrid). The Intelligent Backup Power system is enabled by the 80A Ford home charger. The electric pick-up also has 11 power outlets distributed in the cabin and in the trunk that are able to feed everything, from TV to electric bikes, to circular saws and pneumatic hammers.

Design

—

The F150 Lightning has a remarkable aesthetic imprint, which differentiates it from the thermal counterpart. The front and rear ends are dominated by LED headlights and lights connected by a light bar that extends to a full length. The grid will be available with three different designs. “Our customers told us that they wanted something modern and advanced, but they didn’t want their pick-up to seem like a stop or astronave,” said Jasen Turnbull, Marketing Manager of the Ford F-150 Lightning. “We made sure that the F-1550 Lightning remained faithful to the DNA of the Ford trucks.”

The “Mega-Power Frunk” electrical drive has intelligent solutions such as a removable mat, a fake floor, various hooks, four electrical outlets, two USB ports and even a drain cap for those who want to clean their muddy equipment. The new F-1550 Lightning is the first F-1550 equipped with the latest Sync4 infotainment system that uses a huge 15.5-inch touchscreen display. The arrival on the market is scheduled for next spring.
