Ford F-150 Tremor UNE Off-Road, Comfort and Price against RAM 1500
At the wheel, on the passenger seat or in the back seat, we made in Argentina our first evaluation of the Ford F-150 Tremor, new version of the American pickup that arrives in Brazil for $ 580,000. The price is high, but still 20 thousand reais below the RAM 1500 Laramie Night Edition ($ 599,990) and 5,000 below the entry version of the 1500 ($ 584,990).
Seeking a competitive position for its new top of the line pickup, Ford sells the F-150 Tremor version with a difference of 6,410 reais from Arquirrival Chevrolet Silverado (R $ 573,590). Not to mention that there are two more options from the Ford F-150 for $ 560,000 (Lariat and Lariat Black). Undoubtedly, the arrival of the tremor has the obeying of expanding the presence of F-150 in the category.
Ford wants to show that the F-150 is in the game. But it’s a difficult game, because even with more affordable prices and unshakable leadership in the United States, Ford has not yet been able to explore the full commercial potential of its big pickup in this niche market.
This year (January-ABRIL), the F-150 occupies the runner-up of the career with 404 sales, behind 1500, which has set 669 units, but ahead of Silverado, with 230 records. Last year, the Ford Grande pickup registered 550 units, compared to 1,277 from Chevrolet and 1,231 RAM. That’s why Ford believes it’s time to use more weapons – and expands its arsenal with the great tremor version. Watch the video below the explanation and demonstration of these weapons.
The difference from F-150 tremor from its American rivals is the great off-road capacity, which gave it a very aggressive configuration without losing comfort in the shooting. This is a great merit of the F-150 tremor and is not surprising, considering the exceptional brand’s historical history in the upper pickup segment.
Our first experience aboard the new Ford F-150 Tremor was in place of the passenger, where the quality of life on board is evident, with very comfortable bench, great internal space, easy access to the 12-inch Sync 4 multimedia and the incredible offering of 75 Over-The-Air update modules, which always leaves the truck up-to-dote.
But this is nothing. At the wheel of the F-150 Tremor I was able to enjoy a great driving position, the comfort to rotate and exclusive items, such as an AWD traction system with seven driving modes: normal, eco, sports, slip, off-road, rock crawl and tow/transport. The track was very smooth at the beginning of the test drive, as a cold drizzle fell and had snowed in the Villa La Angostura region, at the foot of the Andes.
Slippery mode makes the pickup more safe. We went through some excerpts of land, but they did not put the F-150 tremor to the race. Ford has provided an off-road circuit so that some features of this new version could be experienced.
A highlight of the Ford F-150 Tremor is the exclusive Off-Road autopilot, which can be triggered up to 32 km/h, controlling acceleration and brakes in slip and slippery descents. Where other pickup trucks can shape, the F-150 tremor shines. There is also the One Pedal Drive system (which many know from electric cars) to improve traction.
It is obvious that the F-150 Tremor has a different style, marked with orange details, but at the time of appearances to Ford (fortunately) also delivers content in this version. The off-road curve assistant, for example, decreases the spinning radius by triggering the inner rear wheel brake, forcing the pickup to get around the curve to a smaller space. There are also lower metal protectors and differential blockage at the front and rear.
The Ford F-150 tremor maintains several features and equipment of the original model. The trailer’s trailer assistant facilitates reverse maneuvers in this situation, and with the advantage of having an algorithm that “learning” user needs. All Terrain Tires with measurements 275/70 R18 are special for off-road use, but do not take off the road comfort.
This is because Ford’s work in the suspension of its pickups is really above average. In the F-150 Tremor The front suspension geometry is different (double a) with new sleeve, there are new shock absorbers, new springs and new stabilizing bar. Ford’s goal was to offer a pickup that perfectly combined stability and comfort. It looks like you got it.
At some points in the script between Villa La Angostura and Lake Hermoso, closer to San MartĂn de Los Andes, a day with a thermal sensation of 5 degrees, it was possible to see that five items can at some point be useful: 277 mm of soil height, 600 mm of water immersion (crossing streams or floods, for example), 28 degrees of inlet angle, 21 degrees of angle of ramp and 24 degrees of output angle.
To have better angles, Ford raised the suspensions and stirred the bumpers, leaving the body shorter and higher. In addition to orange details, inside and outside, the F-150 tremor also has its front-style front design. There are no changes in the propulsion system.
The F-150 tremor engine is the same as other versions: 5.0 V8 “Coyote” to 405 hp gasoline (6,000 rpm) and 556 Nm of torque (4,250 rpm), coupled to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. With 2,550 kg, the Ford pickup has a weight/power ratio of 6.3 kg/hp, allowing for an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in “7 hard” (7.0 seconds).
To compare, Silverado also has a V8, but 3.5, with less power (360 hp) and smaller torque (519 nm), but with slightly better weight/power relation (6.2 kg/hp) and a slightly slower 0-100 (7s4). The 1500 rival has a V6 3.0, but with greater power (426 hp) and much more torque (635 nm), making the test from 0 to 100 much faster (5s3).
Because of all, the F-150 has a better economy on the road (7.5 km/l against 7.2 from Silverado and 7.0 from 1500). In the city the three are equivalent: 7 km/l of gasoline. Obviously, neither is recommended for urban use. In a comparison of equipment, the F-150 tremor has more items for lower price-and this cost-benefit is Ford’s bet to sell more.
Finally, the 8 -inch dashboard, steering steering wheel and heating seats (two very useful items in this Argentine assessment), eight airbags (against six of the competition), the five -year warranty (against three rivals) and the versatility it offers a sense of driving pleasure and safety.
Finally, in the back seat, the onboard experience was also very good, with wide internal space, very comfortable benches and a panoramic sunroof that allowed to glimpse the beauty of Patagonia Argentina’s icy landscape, north of San Carlos de Bariloche, not only in Ruta 40, asphalted, but also in sections of their own 4×4 traction cars.
Are you going to sell well within the reality of half million reais pickups? We don’t know. But competitive, the F-150 tremor is! With the word, the market. In fact, this version of the Ford F-150 will not be the only one in the tremor in Brazil; Soon we will also show Ford Maverick Tremor, in another price range. See below the photo gallery of the F-150 Tremor in Argentina.
