Launched in 2023 in Brazil, the fifth and current generation of Ford Ranger shows the evolution of the medium pickup truck category. Once almost restricted to agribusiness and off-road audiences, they have become more like passenger cars and now look for customers in big cities, which want an aspirational vehicle. To find out how Ranger comes out on this mission, we tested the pickup for a week in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

The unit we tested was the Limited version, which starts from R $ 346,600, but reaches R $ 366,600 when equipped with the so -called ‘optional kit’ (R $ 20,000), which adds 20 ”tires and wheels, 12.4” digital panel, ACC with stop and go, reverse trailer warning, rear moving braking assistants, Evasive, permanence and centralization in range, intersections and blind spot alert.

The Limited version is the top of the pickup, without counting the Ranger Raptor, which is imported from Thailand with 397 hp. As it costs $ 490,000, it is practically a model apart from the Ranger line. Therefore, practically all the best in the model – taking performance – you already find in Ford Ranger Limited.

At the wheel of the Ranger Limited

Ranger Limited features a 3.0 V6 V6 turbodiesel 250 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. The gearbox is a 10 gear automatic, the same used by the Ford Mustang. When accelerating, the pickup is a very agile car, despite weighing 2,357 kg and large dimensions when compared to passenger vehicles.

Of course, it is not a sports car, but there is no lack of strength. The behavior of the pickup resembles that of a passenger car, although the position of driving is higher, as it is a pickup truck on chassis. The seats are comfortable, and bring synthetic leather coating and electrical adjustments to the driver in this version.

Our average consumption was 9.7 km/l in a mixed circuit of city and road. The suspension filters the track imperfections well, and the body does not include much, despite the center of gravity higher than that of passenger cars. The brakes are the four -wheel ventilated disc, and there are seven standard airbags in the Limited version.

Measuring 5.37 m long, 1.91 m wide, 1.88 m high and 3.27 m wheelbase, the ranger proves to be a large car for most Brazilian cities. Still, she is not a hard pickup truck. Merit of the very lightweight electric steering in maneuvers, which makes it easy to park the ranger.

On the other hand, a certain calculation is required when fitting the truck into tighter vacancies. This is where the 360Âş camera shines. The feature is also part of the optional package, but it could be a standard item.

Speaking of measurements, the Ford Ranger Limited bucket has a capacity of up to 1,250 liters and can take up to 1,023 kg of load. We also like that it brings a plastic coating that avoids scratches when carrying larger items. The towing capacity (with brake) is up to 3,100 kg.

Ford Ranger Limited traction and performance

The traction in this version brings the 4WD system, which electronically manages the type of traction through a button on the console. You can choose from 4×2 (rear), 4×4 auto (automatic, with the system distributing traction variable on demand) 4×4 High (4h, ie fixed 4×4, with 50% traction on each shaft), or 4×4 Low (4L, reduced, ideal for more radical off-road stretches).

There are also six selectable driving modes (normal, eco, tow/transp, slippery, mud/earth, sand), each specific to a different type of terrain or situation. With this set, the Ford Ranger Limited ranges from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2s and reaches 187 km/h top speed. These are good numbers for the pickup, but they are still below the Volkswagen Amarok (8.0s and 190 km/h, respectively).

Ford Ranger Limited: On the outside and inside

The look is one of the highlights of the pickup. The unit we tested brought the body in the flashy orange shade JalapĂŁo, which attracted curious glances in the streets of Rio. However, the color is no longer available on the Ranger Lineup 2026. The lines of the current generation have become more modern, and bring inspiration to the F-150 Sister.

Full-Led headlights bring visual signature to ‘C’ and are very efficient. The Limited version also features chrome finishing details, such as the front grille, mirrors and door handles. On the side, there is a stirrup that facilitates onboard entry, and the 20 ” – optional wheels – are diamond. There is also a ‘4WD’ sticker on the bucket part, indicating the type of technology behind the four -wheel drive.

At the back, there are darkened LED flashlights, and the name Ranger at the bottom of the low -relief bucket lid. Inside, the finish stands out in the category. The pieces have good textures and fittings, and some have rubberized and metallic touch. The internal space is good, even in the rear seats.

The 12.4 ”digital panel offers good resolution, as is the vertical orientation 12” multimedia center. It has Android Auto and Apple Wireless Carplay. We also enjoy the presence of physical buttons for adjusting the Dual Zone digital air conditioning, which can also be triggered through the main screen.

Conclusion: Is it worth buying the Ford Ranger Limited 2025?

Finally, Ranger Limited pleases a lot in aspects such as dynamic behavior, comfort, visual and finishing. In fact, she proves that current pickups can closely get closer to the driving experience of a passenger car. Merit of the excellent work of the Ford engineering team and the pickup’s electronics. In terms of comfort, she greatly resembles the Nissan Frontier, but offers more pleasure when driving.

It also brings a balanced look and a good finish that stands out in the category, proving to be an excellent (and more modern) alternative to the leader of the medium pickup segment, Toyota Hilux. However, I believe the ‘Optional Kit’ package should become standard, as it brings equipment that greatly facilitates the use of ranger on a daily basis.

The price of R $ 366,600 (such as the unit we tested) could also be a little lower, as it is above the main competitors, while the dimensions can be a hindrance in some cities. Despite this, Ford Ranger is a good purchase option among medium pickup trucks, but it is worth looking for possible discounts on the American brand dealers network.
