Global sales of electric cars should advance 30% by 2025

Report recently released by S&P Global Mobility, a company that specializes in automotive analysis, reveals encouraging predictions for the global electric vehicle market over 2025. According to analysts consulted, the sector should experience important growth for the coming months and will close the year with growth of approximately 30% compared to the same previous period.

In this scenario, the consultancy estimates that about 15.1 million electric cars will be sold around the world by 2025, compared to 11.6 million units sold in 2024. Globally, EV market share will rise from 13.2% to 16.7%, and even higher in specific regions such as China and some European countries.

In contrast, the same estimates say that global production of light vehicles will fall 0.4%, totaling 88.7 million units. “The auto industry continues to navigate uncertain ground as we entered 2025, particularly as we anticipate President -elect Trump’s universal tariffs,” said Mark Fulthorpe, S&P Global Mobility Global Foreign Executive Director. “During 2025, the production scenario will change dramatically as global trade slows down and retaliatory measures will probably emerge.”

Alone, analysts estimate China will account for 29.7% of the entire global electric cars market in 2025. Following, the United States will have 11.2% market share (36% increase compared to 2024), while central and western Europe will have a slice 20.4% (43.4% advance). India also appears highlighted and, according to forecasts, will close 2025 with 7.5% participation (117% jump compared to 2024).

The numbers, it is worth remembering, are just projections. The achievement of results will depend on a number of factors, including government incentive policies (as in the case of the US). There, there are uncertainties regarding the continuity of the US $ 7,500 federal tax credit offered by the government, which can directly impact sales forecasts.
