What is the story of Bom Menino?
The film of Ben Leonberg follows, from the point of view of the dog Indy, a Toller Retriever, a haunted house story. When Indy and his owner Todd, a man with lung disease, move to a house in the country, the dog begins to see strange presences and witness situations involving the former resident of the house, Todd’s grandfather, and sinister figures. The idea of Bom Menino is very simple. It turns out that the film becomes a great experiment and a fascinating exercise in editing, supported by Indy’s charisma. It is impossible not to support the protagonist and suffer from the terror imposed on him in this new home.

The creature that Indy sees around the house can be interpreted from its forms. The first of them is the most classic and would be a supernatural presence that sucks people’s vitality, until it carries them to the cave that exists in the basement.
The second and more metaphorical represents Todd’s incurable lung disease. Indy sees a materialization of this evil that takes his “best friend” and will take him away at any moment. A visual representation of death and mourning loss.
Does the dog die at the end of Bom Menino?
The question everyone wants to know – many afraid of suffering during the film – is: what is Indy’s ending in this story? Well, the truth is that he suffers, is scared several times, but survives.
Todd is overcome by illness and dies in his bed. Indy tries to save him and even pulls him back from the cave in the basement, but the owner himself understands that the dog can’t do anything and tells him to let him go.
Trapped in the basement, Indy is rescued by Todd’s sister and is reluctant to leave behind the place where his owner said goodbye to him. The terror – or his illness – ends and Indy accepts moving on, even taking one last look, accepting the loss of his friend.
