History, models, versions and engines

In 2023, the F-Series in Ford He totaled almost 751,000 units sold in the United States, with the best-seller F-1550 also arrived in Lightning electric version. If in North America Ford literally dominates the market with its F-150, in Europe there is another model, more “smaller” and cut for European tastes, which represents the best-selling pick-up of the old continent: the Ford Ranger. Present on the European market since the early 1900s, from the 1910s the Ford Ranger has made a clear leap in quality, approaching for practicality, technology and guidelability to the American F-150, to which it is also inspired by aesthetic level. Developed and produced by the Australian division of Ford, the ranger was totally revised in 2023 for its second generation, adopting a more modern style, a more refined and technological interior and a mechanics with vigorous petrol and diesel engines, including the sporty Raptor version.

Let’s find out the models, engines and versions of Ford Pick-ups.

Ford Pick-up models

As said at the opening, in Europe if you think about Ford pick-up models The Ranger immediately comes to mind, a very long -lived model and now reached the last generation with an injection of technology, a completely new mechanics and even greater versatility. Around the world, especially in North America, the Ford models with the body were definitely more, starting from the F series, now formed by the most “small” F-150 and the versions with increased flow rate, from the F-250 to the huge F-550 Heavy Duty. In America, then, the absurd was also seen for our canons, Ranchero, a two -door coupe and two places with a large rear body, rival of the Chevrolet El Camino. A similar recipe was also proposed in Australia, where these coupes with Cassone are called Ute, with the Falcon Ute proposed until 2016.

In 2022, then, Ford launched an unpublished model, the Maverick. Made on the Ford Escape platform (the American Kuga variant), the Maverick is a pick-up with a bearing body, thermal and hybrid engines and a more social and less serious intended intended use. For us Europeans, however, the Ford Pick-Up range was made up mainly of the ranger. Proposed in Europe since the late 90s and created in collaboration with Mazda, in 2011 it was completely renewed with the T6 generation, designed and built by the virtuous Australian branch of the Blue Oval house. Initially available with four and five -cylinder diesel engines, the Ranger T6 was also the first to arrive in high performance version, and with its robustness and versatility, Among the pick-ups both in Italy and in Europe.

In 2023 Ford completely renewed the aesthetic, mechanical and internal ranger. This time, Ford has collaborated with Volkswagen as part of the agreement between the American and German group for the production of commercial vehicles, so much so that VW itself proposes its version of the new pick-up as a second generation of its lucky Amarok.

On aesthetic level, the new ranger has a more modern and refined style, where the aggressive front stands out. Full LED headlights with CA patient “embrace” a transversal bar that combines the large front mask, the Ford logo and the two front headlights. The massive hood then leaves room for the cabin, available with two -door single CAB configuration, Super Cab with two small rear doors with wardrobe opening and the most common Crew Cab version, with four doors and five seats. In the queue, the generous body ends with a rear-style rear-style rear to be a pick-up, with headlights with a modern light signature and a crosse of the headlights and hosts the Ford logo in the center. Finally, there is no lack of the name in bas -relief in the lower reversal.

Inside, the new Ford Ranger is very different from the past, having taken a clear step forward in terms of materials used, on board technology and, lastly, design. If the previous generation still had a clear commercial connotation, in fact, the new ranger has a rather massive and “useful” look, with large handles to easily go up to the front in the front upright, physical climate and large ventilation mouths, but the passenger compartment is generally more modern and well -kept. For example, there is a large 10 or 12 -inch vertical screen with Sync 4a operating system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, an 8 or 12 -inch digital tool framework and a much more refined availability of technologies, from 360 degree cameras to wireless charging, including Matrix LED headlights on the richest versions. The space, then, is in line with a medium-large SUV size in Crew Cab version, 5.37 meters long and with a 1.56 x 1.58 meters box.

Still equipped with the classic sideboard frame with bodywork attached to the frame, the new Ranger couples to its longitudinal engines an all-wheel drive system that can be inserted during the march, called by Ford “Shift-on-to-go”. By selecting the two -wheel drive mode, the car will travel with rear -wheel drive, while inserting the 4A mode the ranger will choose the adequate traction mode, choosing between “high” gears and reduced gears.

At the engine level, the Ford Ranger pick-up is proposed with three diesel engines and a petrol, while in the future a plug-in hybrid variant is expected, marking the debut of rechargeable hybrid technology on the pick-ups. The access version is the 2.0 Ecoblue 170 HP and 405 Nm, available with 6 -speed manual transmission or with a 6 -speed automatic transmission with torque converter. With the arrival of the new generation, the new Ford Ranger has not abandoned the Raptor version, but gave her a welcome upgrade. Greeted the 2.0 Ecoblue Biturbodiesel of 213 HP, under the hood of the worse of the ranger there is a new 3.0 V6 EcoBoost Biturbo with 288 HP and 491 Nm of torque, capable of pushing the American pick-up from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds up to a maximum self-healing speed of 180 km/h.

Ford Pick-up versions

Made on the same base as the other ranger and available only in double cabin configuration, aesthetically the raptor adopts a front mask with a huge Ford logo in the cubital characters in the center, bumper with showy underbody metal protections and, laterally, an increased ground height with large tires designed for off -road vehicles. In the queue, however, the most conspicuous modification are the Raptor decal on the rear wheel arches, their raptor in the upper right corner of the reversal and the two large round exhausts on the sides of the bumper, which when the pick-up is on give him a truly exciting sound.

Inside, the sports seats in leather do the pair with a sports steering wheel with the red tasting to mark the central location and large palettes to manage the 10 -speed automatic transmission, as well as red details and raptor logos scattered around the car. In addition to the adoption of the 3.0 EcoBoost Biturbo, the technical changes are many, starting from the adoption of direct valve fox shock absorbers, which allow the car to absorb also holes and “jumps” in the desert, while there is no lack of front and rear self -locking differentials. For the European market, however, a raptor version with diesel engine will also be available, which will be again the 2.0 Ecoblue Biturbodiesel of 205 HP.

In conclusion with the versions of the most “normal” Pick-up, the Raptor is proposed with different installations, from the XL and XLT variants designed for working use, the balanced Limited, “access” version among the rangers designed for the more worldly use, the robust Treasure, the “specialist” Wildtrak and Wildtrak X with off-road staging and credentials increased off-road. At the top of the “Civil” range of the Ranger is the rich Platinum, equipped with the 241 HP 3.0 V6 V6 and all the options of the ranger range.
