Hyundai studies creating electric pickup based on Chevrolet Silverado EV
The partnership between General Motors and Hyundai was announced in 2023 and so far it is not so clear what will be done, stating that it would be to collaborate on clean energy technologies, vehicles and supply chain. Recent rumors point to the possibility of Chevrolet sharing their pickup trucks with the South Korean brand and apparently there are plans for a Silverado EV-based electric pickup truck.
According to the Korean Car Blog website, citing sources linked to Hyundai, the brand is already testing an electric pickup in the United States, using parts of Kia Ev9 and Hyundai Santa Cruz in the prototype. But the most interesting is the adoption of Silverado EV’s last platform.
Sharing architecture with Chevrolet would help Hyundai advance the development of the pickup and get into the segment quickly, taking advantage of a few models in the category.

Not to be long, there is a possibility that Hyundai even use the strategy of just changing the logo of Silverado EV, something that has already been confirmed by the company’s executives to other models, such as Hyundai’s commercial vehicles. This would considerably reduce production and development costs by taking advantage of the large amount of parts in common.

It is not today that Hyundai wants to launch an electric pickup. Older rumors spoke of the development of a specific model for the US market, which would be shared with Kia. This truck would be different, without a kinship with the newly presented Kia Tasman.
In addition to the electric pickup, the partnership between the two manufacturers should give birth to some more pickup trucks. The Korean website Pulse revealed that there is a study to produce pickup trucks for the Latin American market. This opens the possibility of a variant of the Chevrolet S10 and Montana, both produced in Brazil, which could be sold throughout the region.

With this partnership, Hyundai would finally have its own pickup. The original plan was to create a Crete -based pickup truck, reliving the idea of the Crete STC concept presented at the 2016 Auto Show.
