July 2. The SETI Research Center detects a very powerful radar signal coming from the Moon. A gigantic spaceship five hundred and fifty kilometers in diameter has just arrived. Strange atmospheric phenomena blur satellite images and the White House is alerted. Shortly after, major American cities and the capitals of the world saw their skies obscured by alien ships twenty-five kilometers in diameter coming from the sides of the mother ship. President Whitmore refuses to panic and tries in vain to contact the aliens. Meanwhile, David Levinson, a computer genius working for cable television, receives a message sent by the Aliens and understands that it is a countdown. July 3. Helped by his father Julius, he rushes towards Washington, encountering thousands of fugitives on the way.
