“It’s a miracle that it exists”

It has been 16 years since one of the most groundbreaking films of the last century hit theaters: ‘Avatar’. Directed by the prestigious filmmaker James Cameron (‘Aliens’, ‘Titanic’), it burst onto the audiovisual scene with a technological deployment unprecedented at that time.

The story of Jake Sully and the Na’vi on Pandora connected with the public, becoming a real blockbuster. It also triumphed among critics, winning three Oscars of the nine to which he aspired.

James Cameron’s film had a second part, ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ (2022) and, three years later, the third film in the saga arrives: ‘Avatar: Fire and Ashes’. The film, which premieres this Friday, December 18in theaters, picks up the story of Pandora and its inhabitants after the death of Neteyam, the firstborn of the Sully family.

The film addresses the challenge of “breaking the cycle of violence and hatred” that exists in the world today, according to the director himself. The cast is headed by Sam Worthington, Oona ChaplinZoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver, among others.

The film is not yet available in theaters, but a privileged few have already been able to access it. It is the case of Albert Gamefilm expert, who has shared in a video published on his TikTok account (@albert_laro) his opinion about the third installment of the ‘Avatar’ saga.

A film expert’s opinion on ‘Avatar 3’

«I’ve already seen ‘Avatar 3’ and James Cameron has done it again», says Albert at the beginning of the video. «While I saw her I only thought about the same thing: that this movie exists is a miracle“says the film expert, for whom, with the third installment of the saga, “it does not feel as much progress as from 1 to 2, nor does it have the impact that the first had.”

Although the film lasts 3 hours and 17 minutes, and “you have to take vacation from work to go see it,” jokes the content creator, it doesn’t take long, since the film “gets straight to the point: Throw in a ‘we’re on Pandora again’ scene or two, but quickly attack the story.”

For Albert, it seems that the second and third installments of ‘Avatar’ “are a movie and they have cut it in half.” Something that makes sense to him, since, as he says, “James Cameron initially wrote the story of 2 and 3 as one story and then split them up».

Compared to the first two films, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ashes’ uses a “much larger scale”, which has a double reading for the film expert: “Although it is very cool to see, it works a little against it, since from the beginning every scene is the big scene“Every event is the great event.”

Albert denies that, contrary to how “they sold it”, it is the “darkest, even terrifying…” film of the saga. “I have neither seen this nor felt it, but it was not something that the film needed either,” he points out.

One of the aspects that Albert highlights in the film is the interpretation of Oona Chaplin —who plays the new antagonist—. “It’s incredible, perhaps the best thing about the film,” says the expert, who also praises Zoe Saldana: “If it’s not the best, it’s the second best.” However, the content creator criticizes one of the characters, without mentioning which one it is: “I don’t quite like how it is written, I don’t quite understand certain decisions.”

Regarding the special effects of ‘Avatar 3’, Albert assures “that so many visually memorable things happen that it is difficult to digest them all later». “They overshadow each other and it is difficult to keep three or four moments because there are too many,” he says about the film, which he claims to have enjoyed “more than 1 and less than 2, but just barely.”

To finish, the film expert addresses James Cameron: «My question now is, What are you going to do with number 4 so that it doesn’t feel repetitive anymore?because he has dealt with the same thing in three films. «He has already said that from 1 to 3 is like a saga and 4 and 5 are something very differentso we are waiting for you here.
