James Cameroncurrently immersed in its “blue phase” since the franchise’s debut Avatar in 2009, he admitted that he still thinks about what could have happened if he had taken on another big project.

In an interview with The Townpresented by journalist Matt Bellonithe acclaimed three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker revealed that he almost directed the film adaptation of Wicked — and who is still interested in productions of this genre.

Cameron pointed out that, in the current scenario, films need to be “an event” to guarantee high budgets and attract audiences to cinemas.

I almost made Wicked back then. I really love the story, The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies. This happened fifteen years ago.”

The director even met with the Universal Pictures to discuss his vision for the project, inspired by the book by Gregory Maguire (1995) and in the Broadway musical released in 2003.

However, something essential was missing: “I couldn’t ‘find’ the songs.”

In other words, he failed to visualize the central musical element that would connect him to the project.

Still, he hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of directing a musical one day. “I don’t know. My favorite movie is a musical, The Wizard of Oz”, he added.

The version that finally appeared on the big screen was directed by Jobs Menwith a release divided into two parts.
