Warner Bros. is planning a live-action adaptation of the popular animated series “The Jetsons”. Jim Carrey is set to play one of the main roles.
Warner Bros. is currently developing a live-action adaptation of the cult animated series “The Jetsons.” The US portal “The Wrap” reports that Jim Carrey (63) is in negotiations for a key role. Colin Trevorrow (49) is also in talks with the production company to direct and will also write the script together with Joe Epstein.
“The Jetsons” is a 1960s cartoon series written by cartoon icons William Hanna (1910-2001) and Joseph Barbera (1911-2006), who also created “Tom and Jerry” and “The Flintstones,” among others. The focus is on the married couple George and Jane Jetson, their children Judy and Elroy, the dog Astro and the robot housekeeper Rosie. The animated series originally ran from 1962 to 1963 and was revived in 1985 with an additional 51 episodes. It was the first program ABC broadcast in color.
Not the first live-action adaptation from Warner and Hanna-Barbera
With “Scooby-Doo” from 2002 and the sequel “Scooby Doo 2 – The Monsters Are Loose” (2004), Warner Bros. has already made an animated series of Hanna and Barbera into a live-action film. Both films grossed a total of $456 million at the global box office.
