Jim Carrey would be great Freddy Krueger, says director of Nightmare on Elm Street

Chuck Russellco-writer and director of Nightmare on Elm Street 3, said that despite the retirement of Robert Englund of the paper, he believes that Jim Carrey could replace the classic Freddy Krueger.

“Jim, in my opinion, could do almost anything if he put his mind to it,” he said on the podcast Development Hell, do Dread Central. “For Jim to do that, we would have to do something that was more of a leap forward in the series — a little like what Wes did with The New Nightmare. I think Jim would only consider that, and I would only consider exploring Jim, if there was a bold new direction for A Nightmare on Elm Street.”

In 2023, Englund reportedly said he felt “too old” to play Freddy, and at the time, said he would love to see Kevin Bacon assuming the role. After Englund left the role in 2003, Samuel Bayer took on the role of the villain.

Russell also commented that he would love to do a new A Nightmare on Elm Street, and that I would like to have Patricia Arquette not long
