Hollywood star Julia Roberts cooks for the crew on the film set
When Julia Roberts is filming, the kitchen doesn’t stay cold. The Hollywood star has a philosophy: food has to be real, not complicated.
Julia Roberts not only enjoys being in front of the camera, but also regularly in the kitchen. The actress personally cooked for the crew during the filming of her film “After the Hunt”, which was released in cinemas on October 16th. The Oscar winner tells the “Augsburger Allgemeine” that this is completely normal for her.
“I cook all the time – on set but also at home,” says Roberts. “Hunger comes about every four hours. So it’s a pretty regular occurrence for me.” For her, cooking is “something loving, down-to-earth.” In general, she always puts heart into everything she does, be it a movie or a meal.
Housekeeping as a life skill
“Food is like life: it doesn’t have to be complicated, just real. Fresh ingredients, good company – that’s enough,” says Julia Roberts, describing her cooking philosophy.
The “Pretty Woman” actress’ enthusiasm for cooking even goes so far that she wants to bring back a specific school subject: home economics. “It sounds old-fashioned, but it’s the things you need in life – cooking, baking, ironing, writing a check… I love it,” she emphasizes. She calls these skills “real life skills.”
Julia Roberts likes to have the whole family at the table
Even privately, eating together is a central part of family life. “I love it when my family sits at the table together. That’s real happiness for me,” says Roberts, who has three children with her husband Daniel Moder (56). Being a responsible mother and leading a fulfilling family life – that is the greatest thing for her.
Despite her passion for cooking, Julia Roberts pays close attention to her diet. She mostly avoids gluten, relies on organic products and enjoys making banana bread. She told “People” magazine in 2017 about her eating routine: She prefers to start the morning with sourdough toast with avocado and egg, have salad for lunch and salmon with brown rice in the evening – and a glass of wine.
Unlike some colleagues, Roberts does not demonize certain foods, as she made clear at the time. “Why is everyone afraid of pasta? Pasta has never harmed anyone. Don’t be mean to pasta.” She also openly admitted to sweet things: “I love cookies.”
