Synopsis:
Em LIGHT! THE ADVENTURE CONTINUESThierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Festival, reveals another 100 films by the Lumière brothers, all impeccably restored, and seeks to explore more deeply the history of the invention of cinema.
Curiosities:
» The production is a film about the history of cinema, which brings together 114 works restored in 4K by the brothers who are considered the founders of cinema, Louis e Auguste Lumière;
» Em 1895, Louis e Auguste Lumière invented cinematography and captured the first films in the history of moving images. With the discovery of mise-en-scène, tracking shots, and even special effects, they invented the art of cinema itself;
» It is, in fact, a continuation of another documentary called Lumière! The Adventure Begins (2016), which also compiled old films by cinema pioneers Louis Lumière and Auguste Lumière.
»In The Adventure Continues, Frémaux brought together around 108 (or 114, according to some sources) old films by the Lumière brothers, all restored in 4K — many unreleased to the general public.
» The Lumière films mark the beginnings of cinema: they are records between 1895 and the beginning of the 1900s, showing everyday life — urban landscapes, trains arriving, people working, family scenes — with an authenticity that corresponds to the “origin” of cinema.
» According to Frémaux, with this project — and especially with this documentary — there is a “duty of restitution”: rescuing these little-seen “gems”, giving the public back the chance to see where it all began.
» The documentary reveals that cinema, from its first 50-second “views”, already contained the fundamental elements of what would become cinematographic art: scene composition, framing, rudimentary traveling shots, etc. In other words: almost everything we know as cinema language was already there.
